[Biodegradable fixation systems in pediatric craniofacial surgery: 10-year experience with 324 patients].

Introduction: Over the past 15 years, resorbable materials have been successfully used for osteosynthesis, but their high cost prevents widespread application. However, the use of resorbable systems could be a method of choice, especially in treatment of children in the active growth period. Obviously, biodegradable materials not only are highly competitive with known metal constructs in terms of fixation rigidity, biocompatibility, and a low risk of infection but also have an undeniable advantage, such as gradual resorption allowing quick return of damaged bones to the physiological conditions of functioning.

[Evaluation of psychological methods for determining the degree of psychological stress in children in dentistry].

The article deals with results of comparative evaluation of system of assessment of children's fear and anxiety in dentistry (SDS test) and other objective and subjective methods for assessing anxiety in pediatric patients. We studied 381 pediatric patients aged from 3 to 7 years. The aim of the study was to prove validity mathematical derived FCD test as a technique of anxiety detection in dentistry.

[The experience of biliary self-expendable nitinol stents for malignant jaundice].

The Aim: to analyze the effectiveness and possible complications of endoscopic biliary drainage (BD) using self-expanding metal stent (SEMS) in patients with malignant jaundice (MJ).

Methods: From January 2010 to January 2014 in endoscopy department of Pirogov National medical and surgical Center were operated 64 patients with MJ, 38 of them with SEMS. The average patient's age was 65.

[Use of itopride in the symptoms of functional dyspepsia in Russia: results of a phase IV prospective open-label multicenter clinical trial].

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of itopride used to treat the symptoms of functional dyspepsia (FD) of the upper gastrointestinal tract.

Subjects And Methods: A prospective, open-label, multicenter trial using as a control the placebo response obtained in the previous investigations enrolled 96 adult patients. The diagnosis of FD corresponded to its Rome II criteria.

[Live attenuated and inactivated influenza vaccines: data from direct comparative studies].

Comparative evaluation of live attenuated and inactivated influenza vaccines based on data from direct comparative studies is necessary for ensuring the most effective and safe vaccination against influenza. Analysis of direct comparative preclinical and clinical studies of inactivated and live cold-adapted (ca) influenza vaccines showed that published data are inconsistent and limited for some population groups. Live ca vaccines may be promising as an alternative or addition to inactivated vaccines especially for mass vaccination against influenza in children as well as in the elderly when combined with inactivated vaccines.

[Cells of endothelial lineage (or endothelial-like cells) as possible progenitor cells of sarcomas induced by implanted foreign body].

This study is dedicated to the problem of the origin of progenitor cells of sarcomas induced by implantation of a foreign body (polyvinilchloride plates) to mice. It is known that such cells are found among the cells of the monolayer covering the surface of implanted plate without any signs of tumor growth in 6 and more months after implantation. We studied the existence of endothelial features of mesenchymal type cells that had been grown by culturing the cells from the implanted plate surface in 9 and 14 months after implantation.

Optimal effect of school closure is observed when this measure is taken at the start of the epidemic or pandemic and for a sufficiently long time. School closure during high morbidity among schoolchildren, in the middle (at the peak) and by the end of epidemic or pandemic does not influence significantly the spread of influenza or morbidity.

[Increasing the immunogenicity of inactivated chitosan adjuvanted vaccine from A/California/7/09 (H1N1) strain and analyzing the antigenic specificity of this influenza virus strain].

Addition of chitosan as an adjuvant to subunit vaccine from the swine origin influenza virus A/California/7/09 (H1N1) increases vaccine immunogenicity by 8-16 times and significantly enhances its protective potency. Single immunization with chitosan adjuvanted vaccine induced similar antibody titers as two immunizations with unadjuvanted vaccine. Chitosan stabilized the immunogenicity of subunit vaccine when stored at 4 degrees C.

[Enhancing the immunogenicity of inactivated polio vaccines with chitosan used as an adjuvant].

Addition of chitosan to inactivated trivalent polio vaccine or inactivated preparations of attenuated poliomyelitis viruses (Sabin strains) significantly increases immunogenicity of these inactivated poliomyelitis virus preparations. High neutralizing antibody titers are detected after two immunizations of mice and a single immunization of rats, as well as when the antigen dose was reduced by 4 times. Addition of chitosan as an adjuvant significantly induces cellular immunity.

The article provides data of the pharmacoeconomic analysis (cost/effectiveness) of treatment of peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, biliary sludge and cholelithiasis. It was shown that the most appropriate treatment scheme is one that characterized by lower costs per unit of effectiveness. Analysis of cost/effectiveness can give an economic assessment of clinical efficacy, compare alternative treatments and help to choose the method by which the efficiency increases faster than the level of costs.

[Results of a multicenter trial "Epidemiology of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in Russia" (MEGRE)].

Aim: To assess prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in Russia in MEGRE trial in 6 cities of the Russian Federatiion (Kazan, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk, Ryazan, St-Petersburg, Saransk).

Material And Methods: Mayo Clinic questionnaire (USA) adapted for Russia was used to question 7812 people over 18 years of age from of random population sample. The symptoms (heartburn and regurgitation) were classified as frequent if they arose once a week and more often for the last 12 months, rare symptoms arose less often than once a week.

[Effect of early correction of energy and free-radical homeostasis on the clinical-morphological presentation of cerebral infarction].

A randomized comparative prospective 35-day clinical-instrumental trial of 30 patients with an ischemic hemispheric stroke hospitalized on the first day of disease was carried out. In addition to basic therapy, 16 patients of the main group were treated with the antioxidant power-normalizing drug cytoflavin used in dosage 20 ml/day intravenous in drops from the 1st to 10th day and 2 tablets twice a day from the 11th to 35th day. Fourteen patients of the comparison group received basic therapy only.

[Correction of the antioxidative system during ozone therapy in peritonitis].

Clinical studies revealed correlation of changes in anti-oxidative system and lipid peroxidation with peritonitis phases. The assessment of anti-oxidative system was used as an additional diagnostic and prognostic criterion for the disease. Data are presented in proof of efficiency of an ozone physiological solution included in combined treatment of acute peritonitis.

Data on development and study of adjuvants for influenza vaccines against avian and seasonal influenza are presented. Requirements to perspective adjuvants, their main groups (mineral salts of aluminium, squalene derivatives, polyglycosides, and immunomodulators) as well as experimental adjuvants are reviewed. Analysis of results of several clinical trials of adjuvanted vaccines against avian influenza is presented.
