Legume grains are traditional crops that have been modernized as processed foods and animal protein alternatives in recent years. This modernization has largely been fueled by new technological developments driven by increased consumer demands for plant protein and gluten-free options. However, consumers must be mindful that legumes have other nutritional attributes besides protein that help achieve healthier diets, and recent evidence suggests that consuming 100 g of legume grains per day would promote nutrient-dense diets and could be a target level to harmonize international strategies for recommended daily allowances.

Profiling Persistent Asthma Phenotypes in Adolescents: A Longitudinal Diagnostic Evaluation from the INSPIRERS Studies.

We aimed to identify persistent asthma phenotypes among adolescents and to evaluate longitudinally asthma-related outcomes across phenotypes. Adolescents (13-17 years) from the prospective, observational, and multicenter INSPIRERS studies, conducted in Portugal and Spain, were included ( = 162). Latent class analysis was applied to demographic, environmental, and clinical variables, collected at a baseline medical visit.

Changes on soundscapes reveal impacts of wildfires in the fauna of a Brazilian savanna.

Wildfire is a natural process in Brazilian savannas, but human activities alter fire regimes and threaten biodiversity. In this study, we used an ecoacoustics approach to assess fauna responses and recovery after wildfire in a Brazilian savanna. Six passive acoustic monitoring devices were used to record soundscapes before and after a wildfire a at burned and non-burned sites for one year and one month (September 2012 to September 2013).

Development of potent CPP6-gemcitabine conjugates against human prostate cancer cell line (PC-3).

Gemcitabine (dFdC) is a nucleoside analogue used in the treatment of various cancers, being a standard treatment for advanced pancreatic cancer. The effect of gemcitabine is severely compromised due to its rapid plasma degradation, systemic toxicity and drug resistance, which restricts its therapeutic efficacy. Our main goal was to develop new active conjugates of dFdC with novel cell-penetrating hexapeptides (CPP6) to facilitate intracellular delivery of this drug.

Incidence and predictors of stroke in patients with rheumatic heart disease.

Objective: Ischaemic stroke is a severe complication of rheumatic heart disease (RHD), which may result in permanent disability and death. This study aimed to assess the incidence and predictors of stroke in patients with RHD in the current era of evidence-based recommendations for prevention.

Joining European Scientific Forces to Face Pandemics.

Despite the international guidelines on the containment of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the European scientific community was not sufficiently prepared to coordinate scientific efforts. To improve preparedness for future pandemics, we have initiated a network of nine European-funded Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Actions that can help facilitate inter-, multi-, and trans-disciplinary communication and collaboration.

This study evaluated the effect of (MP) administration on neuroinflammation and behavioral and murinometric parameters in obese rats. Proximate composition, oligosaccharide and phenolic compound profile of MP were determined. Wistar adult male rats were randomized into healthy (HG) and obese group (OG).

Inflammatory Activity and Treatment Response in Pediatric Compared to Adult Multiple Sclerosis: A Pilot, Retrospective and Observational Study of the First Year After Diagnosis.

Introduction: Pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis may contrast with adult-onset multiple sclerosis, in terms of disease activity. We aimed to determine differentiating features between pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis and adult-onset multiple sclerosis, at diagnosis and after one year under disease modifying therapies, and analyse the attainment of the status of "No Evidence of Disease Activity" between groups.

Material And Methods: We analyzed demographical, laboratory, clinical and imaging features of patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis diagnosed at our center, according to the McDonald's 2010 criteria, with ≥ 1 year under disease modifying therapies and with available magnetic resonance imaging scans at diagnosis and one year after disease modifying therapies initiation.

Chitinase 3-like-1 and fibronectin in the cargo of extracellular vesicles shed by human macrophages influence pancreatic cancer cellular response to gemcitabine.

Tumour-associated macrophages have been implicated in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) therapy response and Extracellular vesicles (EVs) shed by macrophages might have a role in this process. Here, we demonstrated that large EVs released by anti-inflammatory human macrophages decreased PDAC cellular sensitivity to gemcitabine. Using proteomic analysis, chitinase 3-like-1 (CHI3L1) and fibronectin (FN1) were identified as two of the most abundant proteins in the cargo of macrophages-derived EVs.

Potentially obesogenic diets alter metabolic and neurobehavioural parameters in Wistar rats: a comparison between two dietary models.

Background: Clinical studies related to the obesity pandemic have intensified in recent years, being the animal studies are also considered of great relevance. However, despite the fact that many diets have been reported in the literature to induce obesity in animal models, there is still a gap regarding evidence of the efficacy of these models, considering not only changes in somatic parameters, but also the triggering of comorbidities associated with obesity. In this scenario, the aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of western and cafeteria diets as obesity-inducing protocols, focusing on the evaluation of metabolic, somatic, oxidative, histological and behavioural parameters of Wistar rats.

Our goal was to assess the role of timing in pigeons' performance in the midsession reversal task. In discrete-trial sessions, pigeons learned to discriminate between 2 stimuli, S1 and S2. Choices of S1 were reinforced only in the first half of the session and choices of S2 were reinforced only in the second half.

Magnon-polaritons in graphene/gyromagnetic slab heterostructures.

We present a theoretical study for the surface magnon-polaritons in structures formed by graphene layer(s) on an insulating gyromagnetic medium (that can be either ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic) surrounded by vacuum. We consider different doping levels to vary the Fermi energies in the graphene, including both semi-infinite and slab magnetic samples. Our results reveal a strong influence, exerted by the presence of graphene, on the surface magnon-polariton modes.

Depression, anxiety and quality of life impairment in parents of children with functional lower urinary tract dysfunction.

Background: Lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) is a common clinical condition in children, frequently associated with emotional issues both among the patients and their families. The objective of the present study was to measure depressive and anxious symptoms and quality of life (QoL) in parents of LUTD patients.

Methods: This cross-sectional study applied Beck Depression and Anxiety Inventories and WHOQOL-Bref to 88 caregivers of children with LUTD followed at a tertiary care center.

Oral health care for children and adolescents with cerebral palsy: perceptions of parents and caregivers.

The aim was to evaluate the oral health care of children/adolescents with Cerebral Palsy (CP) according to severity through the perceptions of parents/caregivers. A case series study was conducted at health services in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil with 94 mothers/caregivers of subjects with CP from 5 and 18 years old. Sociodemographic factors, oral health care and use of dental services (DS) were evaluated.

Adaptive problems arising out of the progenitor's abandonment after Zika Congenital Syndrome.

Objective: to reveal the adaptive problems of the woman abandoned by the child's parent after Congenital Zika Syndrome, in the light of Roy's Adaptation Model.

Method: a qualitative, descriptive study, based on Roy's Adaptation Model, developed with six women abandoned by their child's parent after Zika Congenital Syndrome diagnosis, through interview and Content Analysis technique.

Results: adaptive problems appeared in nutrition, activity, rest, and protection patterns, due to limitations in self-care; self-concept, related to dissatisfaction with body image and personal being; in the role of transition role, through difficulties in taking over new roles and in interdependence, related to changes in affective needs.

Objective: to understand the experiences of family caregivers of children with Primary Immunodeficiency in view of care demands.

Methods: a qualitative research. Data collection was subsidized by an open interview with five family caregivers, and the data were analyzed using the Bardin Content Analysis technique, thematic modality.

Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the antifungal and antibiofilm effects of essential oil (EO) from leaves of Lippia gracilis and its major constituents, thymol and carvacrol, against phytopathogenic fungi.

Methods And Results: The leaves of L. gracilis were hydrodistilled to obtain the EO and the chemical composition was determined by GC/MS analysis.
