Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate if reirradiation of recurrent glioblastoma with higher doses of hypofractionated stereotactic radiation therapy (HSRT) would improve patient outcomes compared to a lower dose while keeping side effects manageable.
  • A randomized trial involved 40 patients who were assigned to receive either 25 Gy in 5 fractions or 35 Gy in 5 fractions. Results showed no significant difference in progression-free survival (PFS) or overall survival (OS) between the two groups.
  • Despite a slight numerical increase in severe necrosis in the higher dose group, it was concluded that the lower dose (25 Gy/5 fx) should be the standard for HSRT due to similar effectiveness and potentially lower toxicity

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the effectiveness of micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and nano-focus computed tomography (nano-CT) in quantifying hard-tissue debris after root canal treatment.
  • Ten mandibular molars underwent imaging with both methods before and after canal instrumentation, with data analysis performed using specialized software.
  • Results indicated that nano-CT detected more debris than micro-CT post-treatment, suggesting that nano-CT is a superior option for precise quantitative analysis in endodontic research due to its higher resolution and image quality.

Among several fruits, mangaba (Hancornia speciosa Gomes), it aroused the interest of producers and consumers due to its attractive sensory characteristics and health beneficial properties (high nutritional value and presence of bioactive substances), thus, this work evaluates the nutritional factors of the flour residue of mangaba processing that is despised by the food industry, and the influence of temperature on its production. The mangaba processing residue was splited in two main groups: in natura sample (control), and other for preparation of flour that was dried at 50 °C and divided into two other groups: treatment A (flour with roasts at 110 °C and 130 °C) and treatment B (flour from drying at 50 °C). The nutritional characteristics of flours were analyzed considering the chemical parameters: pH, titratable total acidity and soluble solids, in addition to the determination of moisture content, total lipids, total dietary fiber and ash, total energy value, antioxidant activity, phytochemical screening, quantification of phenolic compounds and flavonoids, as well as technological functional properties (water absorption index (WAI), water solubility index (WSI), milk absorption index (MAI) and milk solubility index (MSI) and oil absorption index (OAI).

Dose optimisation has been revisited in the literature due to the frequent use of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Although the reduction of the field-of-view (FOV) size has shown to be an effective strategy, this indirectly increases the negative effect from the exomass. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of an optimised CBCT protocol in the detection of simulated vertical root fracture (VRF) in the presence of metal in the exomass and/or inside the FOV.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease characterized by muscle weakness, atrophy, fasciculations, and decreased reflexes due to upper and lower motor neurons death. It can be present in both sexes (55-65 years), but with predominance in males. However, in female patients, ALS presents its first symptoms when they are already postmenopausal, when then the incidence ratio of the disease is practically equal between the sexes, which leads to a probable involvement of sex hormones in the development and protection against ALS.
