Pentaclethra macroloba is a hyperdominant species with multiple uses in the Amazon. This species tolerates varying flood amplitudes, however the effect of flood topographic gradient on its ecophysiology remains unclear. We want to know if individuals from the high (10 trees) and low (20 trees) várzea show distinct phenological patterns as a function of the flood gradient, as well as their colonization strategies and their seed predators.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex challenge, influenced by genetic and environmental factors. This review focuses on the proteins calbindin (CB), calretinin (CR) and parvalbumin (PV) in the context of ASD, exploring their clinical correlations and providing a deeper understanding of the spectrum. In addition, we seek to understand the role of these proteins in GABAergic regulation and their implication in the pathophysiology of ASD.

The biogeography of the Amazonian tree flora.

We describe the geographical variation in tree species composition across Amazonian forests and show how environmental conditions are associated with species turnover. Our analyses are based on 2023 forest inventory plots (1 ha) that provide abundance data for a total of 5188 tree species. Within-plot species composition reflected both local environmental conditions (especially soil nutrients and hydrology) and geographical regions.

S-Limonene (s-Lim) is a monocyclic monoterpene found in a variety of plants and has been shown to present antioxidant and cardioprotective activity in experimental models of myocardial infarction. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential mechanism by which s-Lim exerts its antiarrhythmic effect, focusing on the blockade of β-adrenoceptor (β-AR) and its effects on various in vivo and in vitro parameters, including electrocardiogram (ECG) measurements, left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP), the β-adrenergic pathway, sarcomeric shortening and L-type calcium current (I). In isolated hearts, 10 μM of s-Lim did not alter the ECG profile or LVPD.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Enhancing women's knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) concerning urinary incontinence (UI) through diverse educational strategies has been a focal point for professionals in recent years. This study was aimed at assessing the impact of the educational application Continence App® on the KAP of postpartum women experiencing UI. We hypothesized that access to the app would lead to improved KAP among these women.

It is estimated that there are over 500 species of arboviruses worldwide, with more than 150 of them directly associated with human diseases, the majority of which are zoonotic. Among the main arboviruses circulating in Brazil, dengue, Zika, and chikungunya stand out, all transmitted through a common vector, Aedes aegypti. Given this scenario, the development and implementation of more efficient surveillance strategies become urgent.

Brazilian consensus recommendations on the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune encephalitis in the adult and pediatric populations.

Background:  Autoimmune encephalitis (AIE) is a group of inflammatory diseases characterized by the presence of antibodies against neuronal and glial antigens, leading to subacute psychiatric symptoms, memory complaints, and movement disorders. The patients are predominantly young, and delays in treatment are associated with worse prognosis.

Objective:  With the support of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology (Academia Brasileira de Neurologia, ABN) and the Brazilian Society of Child Neurology (Sociedade Brasileira de Neurologia Infantil, SBNI), a consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of AIE in Brazil was developed using the Delphi method.

Status of β-Adrenoceptor Signal Transduction System in Cardiac Hypertrophy and Heart Failure.

Although -adrenoceptor ( -AR) signal transduction, which maintains cardiac function, is downregulated in failing hearts, the mechanisms for such a defect in heart failure are not fully understood. Since cardiac hypertrophy is invariably associated with heart failure, it is possible that the loss of -AR mechanisms in failing heart occurs due to hypertrophic process. In this regard, we have reviewed the information from a rat model of adaptive cardiac hypertrophy and maladaptive hypertrophy at 4 and 24 weeks after inducing pressure overload as well as adaptive cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure at 4 and 24 weeks after inducing volume overload, respectively.

Physical activity and diet have complementary benefits for attenuating adverse health effects that childhood cancer survivors experience after the end of treatment. This review aimed to explore the impact of combined physical activity and diet interventions on the health status of childhood cancer survivors. A thorough review of the literature was carried out using the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Scielo, LILACS and Web of Science databases for studies published until June 2024.

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) affected the health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and its impact on well-being is not sufficiently understood yet. The worsening of HRQoL and symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, depression, chronic Headache, Myalgia, ageusia, olfactory disorders, and cognitive impairment can be seen in people of different ages and genders after COVID-19 infection, even mild infections without hospitalization. These issues generate a disease burden that can reduce work skills and cause social, psychological, and neuropsychiatric challenges.
