Recurrent invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast with metastasis to the uterine cervix: A case report.

This article presents a case of cervical metastasis from recurrence of invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast >20 years after initial diagnosis. The diagnosis was made after the patient presented with three months of intermittent post-menopausal vaginal spotting. She underwent palliative radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy and was disease free at the time of writing.

Fertility preservation (FP) and family building are important considerations for quality survivorship for young cancer patients. Resident physicians across all specialties encounter reproductive-aged cancer patients. The purpose of this study was to assess resident physicians' attitudes and awareness about FP with the goal to identify specific educational gaps to direct future training.

Background: Underserved ethnic minority populations experience significant disparities in HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV), colorectal cancer (CRC), and cervical cancer incidence and mortality. Much of the excess burden of these diseases among underserved communities is due to lack of preventive care, including screening. Barriers to disease screening include low awareness, lack of access to care and health insurance, and cultural beliefs regarding disease prevention.

Organ-on-chip models: Implications in drug discovery and clinical applications.

Before a lead compound goes through a clinical trial, preclinical studies utilize two-dimensional (2D) in vitro models and animal models to study the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of that lead compound. However, these current preclinical studies may not accurately represent the efficacy and safety of a lead compound in humans, as there has been a high failure rate of drugs that enter clinical trials. All of these failures and the associated costs demonstrate a need for more representative models of human organ systems for screening in the preclinical phase of drug development.
