Photocatalytic water decontamination has emerged as a highly promising technology for efficient and rapid water treatment, harnessing sustainable solar energy as its driving force. The effect of polyethylene microplastics on the disinfection of Escherichia coli by sodium hypochlorite.

The effect of polyethylene microplastics (PE-MPs) on the disinfection of Escherichia coli (E. coli) by sodium hypochlorite was investigated in different pH value, ionic strength, and NOM concentration to illustrate the impact of MPs on the pathogenic bacteria disinfection efficiency in nature water environment. The results showed that PE-MPs tended to agglomerate rather than disperse due to their strong hydrophobicity in water.

Comparison of the clinical performance of the i-gelTM, LMA SupremeTM, and Ambu AuraGainTM in adult patients during general anesthesia: a prospective and randomized study.

Background: Supraglottic airway devices (SADs) are routinely used for securing the airway. In this study, the clinical performance of three SADs in adult patients under general anesthesia was compared.

Adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC), a rare variant of squamous cell carcinoma, is an aggressive and highly infiltrating epithelial neoplasm, which has a distinct histomorphological features comprising simultaneous areas of squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Some researchers consider it as a controversial neoplasm, as it may arise from the ducts of the minor salivary gland or from the overlying surface epithelium. In the head-and-neck region, commonly affected sites include paranasal sinuses, larynx and oral cavity.

MMP-9 responsive dipeptide-tempted natural protein hydrogel-based wound dressings for accelerated healing action of infected diabetic wound.

The infected diabetic wound ulcer is a significant problem for the diabetic patients, which leads to removal of affected foot site due to its delayed/non-healing tissues. The poly-microbial infections and active matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) are the significant influencing factors to delayed healing in diabetic mice. The main purposes of present investigation are to evaluation the targeted inactivation of MMP and avoid polymicrobial infections by using a combined therapeutic effect of metal chelating dipeptide (L-carnosine) and curcumin with the biocompatible silk protein hydrogel (L-car@cur/SF) dressing in the infected diabetic wound ulcer.

A low cost additive-free facile synthesis of BiFeWO/BiVO nanocomposite with enhanced visible-light induced photocatalytic activity.

In this study, visible light driven BiFeWO/BiVO nanocomposite was synthesized via simple additive-free wet-chemical process. Various physicochemical characterization methods such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electrons microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) spectra, UV visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), photoluminescence (PL) and photoelectrochemical measurements were performed to examine the structure, surface morphology, electrochemical and optical behavior of the synthesized material. The photocatalytic performances of the as-synthesized materials were assessed by the photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) in visible-light illumination.

Plasma cell granuloma of lip.

Plasma cells are medium-sized round-to-oval cells with eccentrically placed nuclei, usually found in the red pulp of the spleen, tonsils, medulla of the lymph nodes, nasal mucosa, upper airway, lamina propria of the gastrointestinal tract, and sites of inflammation. Plasma cell granuloma is a rare reactive tumor-like proliferation composed chiefly of plasmacytic infiltrate. Here, we present a case of plasma cell granuloma of lip in a female patient.

A study to assess the efficacy of chemoprophylaxis in the prevention of endoscopy-related bacteraemia in patients aged 60 and over.

Five hundred and fifteen patients aged 60 and over (mean age 74.7; 278 men and 237 women) underwent routine endoscopic procedures (gastroscopy, bronchoscopy and cystoscopy). Alternate patients were given antibiotics before the procedure, as currently recommended, and blood was taken for culture from all patients within five minutes of completion of the procedure.

The effects of differing pharmaceutical preparations of indomethacin on night pain and morning stiffness in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

A study was carried out in 18 patients with rheumatoid arthritis to compare the effects of two different preparations of indomethacin with placebo on night pain, sleep and duration of morning stiffness. Patients were treated for 1 night each, in random order, with identical capsules containing 75 mg indomethacin, either as 'Indomod' (all sustained-release form) or 'Indocid' R (25 mg normal, 50 mg sustained-release form), or placebo as a substitute for their usual night-time medication. The results of visual analogue scale scores and a standard sleep assessment questionnaire score indicated the same order of effectiveness for each of the three parameters, with 'Indomod' best, 'Indocid' R intermediate and placebo worst, but only the difference in sleep was statistically significant.
