Ludwig's angina is a potentially life-threatening disease characterized by diffuse bilateral cellulitis with an odontogenic origin. This unique infection is now rare owing to the antibiotic era. This patient presented to the emergency room with trismus, jaw and neck swelling, mild respiratory distress with tachypnea, hyperthermia, and panic.

"Competitive" food and beverage policies and weight status: A systematic review of the evidence among sociodemographic subgroups.

Prior studies identified variable associations between competitive food and beverage policies (CF&B) and youth obesity, potentially due to differences across population subgroups. This review summarizes the evidence on associations between CF&B policies and childhood obesity within gender, grade level/ age, race/ethnicity, and/or socioeconomic levels. PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, and ERIC database searches identified studies published in English in Canada and the United States between January 1, 2000, and February 28, 2022.

These rare blood groups need a transfusion of blood from the same group of people; sometimes, it is not available in blood banks. Dysregulation of DNA repair genes in Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy.

Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy (FECD), a late-onset oxidative stress disorder, is the most common cause of corneal endothelial degeneration and is genetically associated with CTG repeat expansion in Transcription Factor 4 (TCF4). We previously reported accumulation of nuclear (nDNA) and mitochondrial (mtDNA) damage in FECD. Specifically, mtDNA damage was a prominent finding in development of disease in the ultraviolet-A (UVA) induced FECD mouse model.

Background: Retransplantation candidates are disadvantaged owing to lack of good-quality liver grafts. Strategies that can facilitate transplantation of suboptimal grafts into retransplant candidates require investigation. Positional outflow obstruction as a cause of early refractory ascites post-pediatric living donor liver transplantation.

Refractory ascites post-liver transplantation can be a challenging problem. Causes of refractory ascites include venous outflow anastomotic stenosis, vessel kinking by the regenerating liver, pre-existing graft disease, and positional outflow obstruction. We present a case report of a child presenting with high drain output and refractory ascites post-LDLT secondary to a positional kinking.

Therapeutic coil embolization of dominant shunt in hepatopulmonary syndrome enhances post-liver transplant respiratory recovery.

Coil embolization of the atypical enlarged pulmonary artery/arteriole with visible shunting may improve hypoxemia in patients with hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS). When used selectively in cases with large shunts, either pre- or post-liver transplantation (LT), it can aid an early recovery and reduce morbidity. We present a case where a large intrapulmonary shunt was embolized preoperatively to improve hypoxemia associated with HPS and enhance post-operative recovery.

Molecular docking analysis of a secondary metabolite with the glycoprotein receptors of HSV 1 and HSV 2.

Herpes simplex viruses (HSV) are alpha herpes viruses, which causes life-threatening illness. Therefore, it is of interest to design and develop potential drugs to treat HSV infections. We show the optimal molecular docking properties of a secondary metabolite (3, 7, 11, 15 tetra methyl-2-2-hexadecen-'1-ol) with the glycoprotein receptors of HSV1 and HSV 2 for further consideration.

Development and Investigation of Vitamin C-Enriched Adapalene-Loaded Transfersome Gel: a Collegial Approach for the Treatment of Acne Vulgaris.

Adapalene-loaded transfersome gel containing vitamin C as a combination therapy for the management of acne vulgaris was developed in the present study. The transfersome was prepared by reverse-phase evaporation, and the effect of various process parameters were investigated by the Design of Experiment (DOE) approach and optimized based on the particle size (PS), polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential (ZP), and entrapment efficiency (EE). The selected tranfersomes were further evaluated for their thermal behavior and morphology by transmission electron microscopy and turbidity measurements and incorporated into a gel with/without vitamin C.

Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy (FECD) is an age-related genetically complex disease characterized by increased oxidative DNA damage and progressive degeneration of corneal endothelial cells (HCEnCs). FECD has a greater incidence and advanced phenotype in women, suggesting a possible role of hormones in the sex-driven differences seen in the disease pathogenesis. In this study, catechol estrogen (4-OHE), the byproduct of estrogen metabolism, induced genotoxic estrogen-DNA adducts formation, macromolecular DNA damage, and apoptotic cell death in HCEnCs; these findings were potentiated by menadione (MN)-mediated reactive oxygen species (ROS).

It is a genetically complex and age-related disorder, with higher incidence in females. In this study, we established a nongenetic FECD animal model based on the physiologic outcome of CE susceptibility to oxidative stress by demonstrating that corneal exposure to ultraviolet A (UVA) recapitulates the morphological and molecular changes of FECD.

Coumarin (a cinnamon compound with pharmacological activity) is known as a potent phytal compound blocking tumor growth. Hence, a series of 17 coumarin derivatives were designed using the CHEMSKETCH software for docking analysis with CAIX.
