Annual lung cancer screening using low dose computed tomography (LDCT) effectively reduces mortality from lung cancer and is recommended for persons who are at high risk of developing the disease. The utilization of the lung cancer screening, however, has remained low. Due to significantly higher cigarette smoking rates, patients with behavioral health disorders (those living with mental illness and/or substance use disorders) are more likely to be diagnosed with and die from lung cancer; at the same time, they are less likely to undergo cancer screenings.

We present a case study of neotricuspidization of the aortic valve with neocusp suturing based on templates similar to those used in the Ozaki procedure but adapted for infants. This is an alternative for patients when valve reconstruction is impossible or risky. A good postoperative hemodynamic outcome was obtained, but it is necessary to evaluate this approach on the basis of long-term results.

The management of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) remains largely unresolved due to our limited understanding of the underlying mechanisms of the pathology and the challenges in accurately phenotyping this heterogeneous syndrome. In this study, the average values of vertical velocity of particles emitted from an aluminum smelter in the surface layer of the atmosphere were estimated using a semi-empirical method. Despite the high tobacco use rates (~80%) and tobacco-related cancers being the second leading cause of death among people experiencing homelessness within the United States, these individuals rarely receive tobacco use treatment from homeless-serving agencies (HSAs). This qualitative study explored the enablers and inhibitors of implementing an evidence-based tobacco-free workplace (TFW) program offering TFW policy adoption, specialized provider training to treat tobacco use, and nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) within HSAs. Pre- and post-implementation interviews with providers and managers ( = 13) pursued adapting interventions to specific HSAs and assessed the program success, respectively.

A new efficient and versatile one-pot three-component synthesis of substituted pyrrolo[1,2-a]thieno[3,2-e]pyrimidine derivatives has been developed. It is based on a multistep cascade reaction from 2-aminothiophenes and 2-hydroxy-4-oxobut-2-enoic acids, and derivatives of cyanoacetic acid catalyzed by diisopropylethylamine. As a result, novel pyrrolo[1,2-a]thieno[3,2-e]pyrimidine derivatives (21 compounds) were synthesized in a mild reaction conditions with a high yield.

Tobacco-free workplace policies (TFWPs) are underused evidence-based interventions that reduce the elevated use of tobacco among substance use treatment center (SUTC) employees and patients. SUTC employees' anticipated concerns about stakeholder pushback are barriers to TFWP adoption. Examination of discrepancies between anticipated and actualized employee-reported TFWP concerns arising from coworkers, patients, and community members in the context of leadership concerns and tobacco cessation care availability for employees may inform strategies to increase TFWP uptake.

In this study, we have considered four types of nanoparticles (NPs): polylactic acid (PLA), gold (Au), calcium carbonate (CaCO), and silica (SiO) with similar sizes (TEM: 50-110 nm and DLS: 110-140 nm) to examine their passive accumulation in three different tumors: colon (CT26), melanoma (B16-F10), and breast (4T1) cancers. Our results demonstrate that each tumor model showed a different accumulation of NPs, in the following order: CT26 > B16-F10 > 4T1. The Au and PLA NPs were evidently characterized by a higher delivery efficiency in case of CT26 tumors compared to CaCO and SiO NPs.
