Background And Objective: Iatrogenic spinal durotomies occur at a rate of 1% to 17%. Surgical simulation for durotomy repair is needed to provide affordable, accessible, and validated practice. Objectives: Atypical hangman's fractures are associated with increased risk for neurologic injury due to involvement of the posterior cortex of the axis body. We present the largest single-center cohort of atypical hangman's fractures with the goal of guiding treatment decisions and outcomes based on fracture classification.
Background: Several assessment tools have been developed to estimate a patient's likelihood risk of falling. None of these measures estimate the contributions of the visual, vestibular, and somatosensory systems to fall risk, especially in patients with degenerative lumbar spine disease.
Methods: Degenerative lumbar spine patients with radiculopathy (LD) and healthy subjects who were 35-70 years old without spine complaints were recruited.
Background: Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration is a multifactorial pathological process resulting in the dysregulation of IVD cell activity. The catabolic shift observed in IVD cells during degeneration leads to increased inflammation, extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation, aberrant intracellular signaling and cell loss. Importantly, these pathological processes are known to be interconnected and to collectively contribute to the progression of the disease.

Methods: ASD patients who underwent posterior spinal fusion at a single-center with a preoperative coronal vertical axis (CVA) ≥ 3 cm and a minimum of 2 year clinical and radiographic follow-up were identified. Patients were divided into two groups: those treated with a KSR and those who were not.
Study Design: Retrospective review of a single institution cohort.
Objective: To determine whether area deprivation index (ADI) or social vulnerability index (SVI) is more suitable for evaluating minimum clinically important difference (MCID) achievement following elective lumbar fusion as captured by the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS).
Summary Of Background Data: A total of 182 patients who underwent elective one-level to two-level posterior lumbar fusion between January 2015 and September 2021.
Background: Retraction of scientific publications is an important check on scientific misconduct and serves to maintain the integrity of the scientific literature. The present study aims to examine the prevalence, trends, and characteristics of retracted spine literature across basic science and clinical spine literature.
Methods: Multiple databases were queried for retracted papers relating to spine or spine surgery, between January 2000 and May 2023.
Objective: We aimed to describe spinal biomechanics and injury patterns in rowing.
Methods: In this systematic literature review, a Google and PubMed literature search was undertaken using keywords "rowing," "biomechanics," and "spine."
Results: Relevant articles were reviewed and synthesized to describe biomechanics, injury patterns, treatment options, and techniques for injury prevention.
Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are key mediators of inflammation in intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration. TLR-2 activation contributes to the degenerative process by increasing the expression of extracellular matrix-degrading enzymes, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and neurotrophins. As potent post-transcriptional regulators, microRNAs can modulate intracellular mechanisms, and their dysregulation is known to contribute to numerous pathologies.

Methods: We evaluated patients undergoing cervical laminoplasty between 2011 and 2022 at an academic medical center. Patient demographics, intraoperative and postoperative complications, and preoperative and postoperative radiographic parameters were recorded.
Background Context: Socioeconomic status (SES) has been associated with differential healthcare outcomes and may be proxied using the area-deprivation index (ADI). Few studies to date have investigated the role of ADI on patient-reported outcomes and clinically meaningful improvement following lumbar spine fusion surgery.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of SES on lumbar fusion outcomes using Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) surveys.
Purpose: Scoring systems for metastatic spine disease focus on predicting long- to medium-term mortality or a combination of perioperative morbidity and mortality. However, accurate prediction of perioperative mortality alone may be the most important factor when considering surgical intervention. We aimed to develop and evaluate a new tool, the H-FAILS score, to predict 30-day mortality after surgery for metastatic spine disease.

Background: Each year, over 300,000 people older than 65 years are hospitalized for hip fractures. Given the notable morbidity and mortality faced by elderly patients in the postinjury period, recommendations have been put forth for integrating palliative and, when needed, hospice care to improve patients' quality of life. Data from Twitter and Instagram for 179 orthopedic residency programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education were collected, including the presence of a social media account, date of first post, number of posts, and number of followers. Residency program data were collected from the Association of American Medical Colleges Residency Explorer Tool and included percentage of Whiteresidents, percentage of male residents, residency ranking, and number of applications submitted during the 2019 application cycle.

Methods: Data for ASD patients (age ≥ 18 years, minimum of six instrumented levels) with pelvic fixation (S2-alar-iliac [S2AI] and/or iliac screws) with a minimum 2-year follow-up were consecutively collected (2015-2019). Patients with prior pelvic fixation were excluded.
Objective: Joint dislocations are orthopedic emergencies that require prompt intervention. Automatic identification of these injuries could help improve timely patient care because diagnostic delays increase the difficulty of reduction. In this study, we developed convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to detect elbow and shoulder dislocations, and tested their generalizability on external datasets.
