Healthcare is an imperative sector for India, considering the huge population in the country and the sub-par health facilities available to a majority of the country's people. In this scenario, and given the havoc wreaked by the COVID-19 pandemic, owing to India's lack of optimal healthcare infrastructure, a large part of the healthcare industry expected that India's Union Budget 2023 would provide significant outlays for the sector. However, with the budgetary outlay for healthcare coming in at the 10 position from the top, this hope was severely dashed, leading to questions about the country's interest in providing healthcare facilities to its people.

Acinetobacter baumannii is an opportunistic pathogen predominantly associated with nosocomial infections. The World Health Organization's data on antibiotic-resistant 'priority pathogens' reports carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii as a pathogen which is in critical need of research and development of new antimicrobials.

Silver nanoparticles are the most widely used antibacterial agents with a number of advantages. The higher degree of biocompatibility and long-term antibacterial activity can be achieved with hydrogel-silver nanoparticles. In this work, a simple and facile synthetic strategy is developed to control the size and shape of the silver nanoparticles within the hydrogel networks.

In this work chitosan/silver nanoparticle films were synthesized by a simple photochemical method of reduction of silver ions in an acidic solution of AgNO(3) and chitosan. This is a novel, cheap, easy, quick and in situ approach to prepare chitosan films loaded with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Chitosan used here is a natural polymer and acts as a very good chelating and stabilizing agent; thus, this approach of formation of chitosan/silver nanoparticle films is proved to be an excellent 'green approach' for the synthesis of metal nanoparticle composites.

This review article is focused on the various approaches that have been made to synthesize metal nanoparticles with predetermined shape, size, and fair stability. Due emphasis has been given on polymer stabilized nanoparticles. In addition use of other varieties of stabilizers like inorganic salts, organic compounds, organic solvent, biological molecules, etc.
