Currently, the response to cancer treatments is highly variable, and severe side effects and toxicity are experienced by patients receiving high doses of chemotherapy, such as those diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. The main goal of researchers and clinicians is to develop new effective treatments that will be able to specifically target and kill tumor cells by employing the minimum doses of drugs exerting a therapeutic effect. Despite the development of new formulations that overall can increase the drugs' pharmacokinetics, and that are specifically designed to bind overexpressed molecules on cancer cells and achieve active targeting of the tumor, the desired clinical outcome has not been reached yet.

Giant-cell arteritis in the southern United States. An 11-year retrospective study from the Texas Gulf Coast.

Giant-cell arteritis (GCA) and polymyalgia rheumatica are systemic disorders that reportedly affect primarily white women older than age 50 years. We conducted an 11-year chart review to determine the relative occurrence and pattern of demographic involvement of GCA in the Gulf Coast region of the United States. Of 101,239 computer-coded entries for individual patients aged 40 years or older, 60 charts listed GCA as a differential diagnosis.

Selection and nonoperative management of pediatric blunt trauma patients: the role of quantitative crystalloid resuscitation and abdominal ultrasonography.

One hundred thirty-nine pediatric blunt trauma patients 12 years of age or less were cared for using a protocol designed to identify which patients require aggressive surgical therapy and those who can be managed nonoperatively. Sixteen patients (average MISS score, 33) failed to respond to an estimated 20 cc per kilogram of crystalloid fluid resuscitation. Fifteen died, a mortality rate of 94%.

Because it is difficult histologically to differentiate between a renal cell carcinoma and a renal adenoma, their differentiation has been based on size. Lesions less than 3 cm. have been called adenomas and those greater than 3 cm.

Giant hyperplastic polyp of the colon simulating adenocarcinoma.

Hyperplastic polyps of the colon have been previously reported as frequent incidental asymptomatic lesions limited to 1 cm. in size. To our knowledge, this is the first recorded case of a hyperplastic polyp of such magnitude as to cause obstructive symptoms and clinically simulate adenocarcinoma of the colon.
