An Overview of Opioid Prescription Patterns among Non-Opioid Users Following Emergency Department Admission.

The evolving landscape of opioid prescription practices necessitates a comprehensive understanding of emerging patterns, particularly among new opioid users discharged from emergency departments. This study delves into the intricate realm of opioid utilization by elucidating the prevalence of their prescriptions. A retrospective analysis of electronic health records was conducted, including a cohort of 71 patients who received opioid prescriptions upon discharge from emergency departments from 1 January 2022 to 30 June 2022.

Variability in the prevalence of inappropriate medication use among older adults: A review highlighting the importance of screening methods and database types.

Aims: The global older population is growing rapidly, and the rise in polypharmacy has increased potentially inappropriate medication (PIM) encounters. PIMs pose health risks, but detecting them automatically in large medical databases is complex. This review aimed to uncover PIM prevalence in individuals aged 65 years or older using health databases and emphasized the risk of underestimating PIM prevalence due to underutilization of detection tools.

Do children interpret informants' confidence as person-specific or situational?

Children prefer to learn from confident rather than hesitant informants. However, it is unclear how children interpret confidence cues: these could be construed as strictly situational indicators of an informant's current certainty about the information they are conveying, or alternatively as person-specific indicators of how "knowledgeable" someone is across situations. In three studies, 4- and 5-year-olds (Experiment 1: N = 51, Experiment 3: N = 41) and 2- and 3-year-olds (Experiment 2: N = 80) saw informants differing in confidence.

Devices for securing and administering pediatric compounded oral liquids: survey results from French university hospitals.

Oral liquid forms, either commercial or compounded, are preferred in pediatrics due to their suitability for weight-based dosing and acceptability for children. The choice of dosing delivery devices associated with oral liquid forms is important to ensure accurate dosing, ease of administration, and patient safety. Given the prevalence of compounding in pediatric settings, this study aimed to investigate the practices among French university hospitals concerning the selection of dosing delivery devices associated with compounding oral liquid forms for children.

Objectives: This review of the literature aimed to evaluate the economic impact of a clinical pharmacist in the orthopaedic sector.

Methods: The review followed the PRISMA recommendations. A bibliographic search was conducted on 23 June 2023 using PubMed, Cochrane Library and Web of Science.

An observational study of haemophilia A patients without inhibitors using the French national claims (SNDS) database.

Objectives: To describe clinical characteristics, factor consumption, and events of interest in patients with haemophilia A without inhibitors receiving prophylaxis in France, and the clinical impact of switching to Elocta® in this population.

Methods: This retrospective, observational study using the Système National des Données de Santé database, analysed data from patients with haemophilia A without inhibitors using prophylactic factor VIII (FVIII) replacement therapy during 2016-2019. Clinical characteristics, treatment patterns and switches, factor consumption, and rate of events of interest were determined.

[Overview of the implementation of pharmaceutical interviews in pharmacies in France: Analysis of responses to a questionnaire].

Objective: To evaluate the development of pharmaceutical interviews in pharmacies in France, in order to understand the organization implemented, any limitations and the expansion of eligible pathologies.

Method: A dematerialized questionnaire was designed and distributed between November 2022 and February 2023 to pharmacists and pharmacy students in France (mainland and overseas) via a link to a Google Form.

Results: Ninety-four pharmacists from 8 different regions of France responded to the survey.

Cost effectiveness of using trastuzumab biosimilars compared to trastuzumab original drugs to treat breast cancer in a hospital setting.

Introduction: Subcutaneous (SC) drug administration, such as the Herceptin® in an oncology day hospital reduces the administration time of trastuzumab. In the context of combination therapy administration, this time-saving may be called into question. The challenge posed by the deployment of much less expensive IV biosimilar forms raises questions about the cost-effectiveness of SC administration.

Evaluation of the care pathway in the context of the dispensing of emicizumab (Hemlibra) in community and hospital pharmacies in France: A patient satisfaction survey.

Introduction: Since June 2021 in France, patients with haemophilia A with anti-factor VIII inhibitors and patients with severe haemophilia A without anti-factor VIII inhibitors, and treated with emicizumab (Hemlibra), have to choose the dispensing circuit community or hospital pharmacy.

Aim: To evaluate satisfaction of patients whether they choose dispensation from a community pharmacy or retained dispensation from the hospital pharmacy, to understand the main motivation for choosing the community or the hospital pharmacy.

Methods: All patients living in France, regardless of age, were eligible to participate.

Implementation of medication reconciliation activity complemented by pharmaceutical analysis of prescription is an effective way to reduce drug related problems. Development of an Oral Liquid Formulation of Nicardipine Hydrochloride Compounded with Simple Excipients for the Treatment of Pediatric Hypertension.

Nicardipine hydrochloride is an anti-hypertensive drug that is used off-label to treat hypertension in children. A previous oral formulation of nicardipine hydrochloride was developed using a commercial vehicle as an excipient. Clinical impact of a personalized pharmaceutical plan on opioid management in non-cancer pain: a pilot study.

The objective was to evaluate the impact of a personalized pharmaceutical plan on patients' knowledge of their opioid treatment and its duration. This prospective non-randomized pilot study was conducted during 7 months with standardized data collected in a French rheumatology department.

Stability study of a compounded oral solution of nicardipine for the treatment of hypertension in children.

Nicardipine is an antihypertensive drug that may be used off-label by oral route to treat hypertension in children. Currently commercially available tablets are inappropriate for oral use in children and manufactured hard capsules are not suitable for easy dose individualization to achieve target blood pressure. We aimed to fulfill this lack of appropriate dose forms by developing an oral liquid formulation of nicardipine.
