Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of individuals with Parkinson's through the theoretical lens of illness uncertainty during the first UK full lockdown period (March-June 2020) put in place due outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: Individual semi-structured interviews were carried out via telephone in May 2020 with 10 individuals with Parkinson's (six men and four women) recruited from Parkinson's UK. Interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim, and thematic analysis was adopted to analyse the resulting data.

Background: Developing recommendations for how we deliver healthcare is often left to leading experts in a field. Findings from the Integrated Palliative Care in cancer and chronic conditions (InSup-C) study, which aimed to identify best practice in integrated palliative care in cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart failure, led to recommendations developed through an expert consultation process. We also wanted to develop these recommendations further with participants who were largely clinicians and members of the public.

The UK prison population has doubled in the last decade, with the greatest increases among prisoners over the age of 60 years, many of whom are sex offenders imprisoned late in life for 'historical' offences. Occurring in a context of 'austerity' and the wider neoliberal project, an under-researched consequence of this increase has been the rising numbers of 'anticipated' prison deaths; that is, deaths that are foreseeable and that require end of life care. We focus here on 'jail craft'; a nostalgic, multi-layered, narrative or discourse, and set of tacit practices which are drawn on by officers to manage the affective and practical challenges of working with the demands of this changed prison environment.

Introduction: The Lancashire and Cumbria Innovation Alliance (LCIA) Test Bed is a partnership between the National Health Service in England, industry (led by Philips) and Lancaster University. Through the implementation of a combination of innovative health technologies and practices, it aims to determine the most effective and cost-effective ways of supporting frail older people with long-term conditions to remain well in the community. Among the Test Bed's objectives are to improve patient activation and the ability of older people to self-care at home, reduce healthcare system utilisation, and deliver increased workforce productivity.

The nanoscale, multiplexed functionalization of graphene in a device array is a critical step to realize graphene-based chemical and biosensors. We demonstrate that graphene can be functionalized with submicron resolution and in well-defined locations and patterns using reaction agents in attoliter quantities, utilizing dip-pen nanolithography or microchannel cantilever spotting. Specifically, we functionalize graphene with a biotin azide using click-chemistry and demonstrate the subsequent binding of fluorescently tagged streptavidin.

Here we show an elegant and general route to the assembly of a giant {M12C24} cage from 12 palladium ions (M) and 24 heterometallic octanuclear coordination cages (C = {Cr7Ni-Py2}). The molecule is 8 nm in size, and the methods for its synthesis and characterization provide a basis for future developments at this scale.

We report the electrochemical properties of pristine monolayer, double layer and few-layer (termed quasi-) graphene grown via CVD and transferred using PMMA onto an insulating substrate (silicon dioxide wafers). Somatotrophs of male Wistar rats fed a carcinogenic dose of the potent hepatocarcinogen 3'methyl-4-dimethylaminoazobenzene-(3'MeDAB) in a complete diet for up to 21 weeks, showed ultrastructural changes within one week of the start of the experiment. Morphometric analysis showed that the area of the somatotrophs occupied by hormone storage granules was reduced significantly at all stages up to 21 weeks, when the experiment was terminated. The cell area occupied by rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) was significantly increased after three weeks and RER surface density increased after eight weeks, whilst granule size was reduced after four weeks.
