Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, heterogeneous, systemic autoimmune disease characterized by autoantibody production, complement activation, and immune complex deposition. SLE predominantly affects young, middle-aged, and child-bearing women with episodes of flare-up and remission, although it affects males at a much lower frequency (female: male; 7:1 to 15:1). Technological and molecular advancements have helped in patient stratification and improved patient prognosis, morbidity, and treatment regimens overall, impacting quality of life.

However, South Asian countries report a higher incidence of neonatal and under-five mortalities when compared to the Western world, many of which are attributed to maternal and perinatal micronutrient deficiencies. Isolated nutrient deficiency in the absence of calorie deficit poses a diagnostic challenge since such deficiencies present with acute multisystemic and enigmatic manifestations.

Objectives: This research aims to assess the acute and sub-chronic toxicity of PHF in rats.
Background: Globally, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death and disability. Elevated low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) and more specifically, elevation of its small, dense phenotype (sdLDL-C) has been regarded as the key modifiable risk factors associated with atherogenesis. This study aimed to determine the association of LDL-C and sdLDL-C with the development of CVDs in the next six months to establish their predictive efficacy.

Guggulutikthaka gritha (GTG) is one such drug evaluated for its role in skin and bone diseases.
Objective: In the current study, the hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, and anti-inflammatory effect of the drug GTG was studied with the scope to treat dyslipidemia and thereby reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Background: Adenosine Deaminase, the key enzyme of purine metabolism catalyzing the irreversible hydrolytic deamination of adenosine to inosine is implicated in a varied spectrum of human diseases ranging from SCID to TB and pneumonia. Estimation of ADA offers an easy, relatively affordable and reliable diagnostic alternative and/ or adjunct (specially in a TB endemic nation) which emphasizes the necessity of a feasible and implementable alternative method to the Diazyme method of ADA estimation requiring high end autoanalyzer and infrastructural setup.
Methods: Sixty body fluids samples (irrespective of gender, age, diagnosis or sample type) received by the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal for fluid ADA estimation by the Diazyme assay method (cobas 6000) was simultaneously processed by the Galanti and Guisti manual method to estimate the comparability and the aggregability of results obtained by the two analytical techniques.
Background: The study aims at the comparison and correlation of serum levels of fructosamine and erythrocyte Na/ K ATPase in Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and Non Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (Non GDM).
Methods: A total of 326 samples were divided into 4 groups. Pregnant women between the age group of 2040 years who gave samples for Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) were included as the subjects.
Introduction: First trimester screening by dual test is the most preferred method of antenatal screening. The detection rate of foetal aneuploidy using dual test is 95%. This test uses maternal serum free β human Chorionic Gonadotropin (free β hCG) and Pregnancy Associated Plasma Protein A (PAPP-A) along with maternal demographic and foetal sonographic indices to calculate risk for foetal aneuploidy.
