Objective: This research aimed to assess the intake of vitamin E and its relationship with lipid peroxidation markers and C-reactive protein levels in patients with flu symptoms and COVID-19 diagnosis.
Methods: A cross-sectional study with 121 patients of both sexes assisted at two basic health units in the city of Teresina, Piauí, with COVID-19 diagnosis confirmed through real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, was performed between the 3 and 7 days of flu symptoms. The global nutritional status and the measurement of waist circumference were assessed according to the World Health Organization recommendations.
Eucalyptus is the most intensively managed tree genus in the world. Different factors, including damage by insect pests, affect its growth and productivity. Among these pests is Glycaspis brimblecombei Moore (Hemiptera: Aphalaridae), an exotic insect of Australian origin.

Determinations were made using Direct Mercury Analysis (DMA), the accuracy of which was confirmed with two certified reference materials. The highest total mercury concentrations were found at the sampling point close to commercial areas and large residential condominiums.

Microsporidia are naturally occurring fungal-related parasites that can infect nearly all animal hosts, but their biocontrol potential of insect pests is routinely overlooked in agriculture and forestry. This research brings the first report describing the natural occurrence of a microsporidium causing disease in field-collected populations of the invasive eucalyptus snout beetle, Gonipterus platensis (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), a major destructive pest of eucalyptus plantations in Brazil. Adult beetles were collected during field surveys in commercial eucalyptus plantations in southern Brazil to be examined and dissected with typical symptoms to verify presence of microsporidian spores in haemolymph.

This study was performed with the objective of understanding the reasons why workers of a birthing center in southern Brazil use natural birth practices considered harmful by the World Health Organization. This exploratory study was performed in July 2009 through interviews with 23 workers. The analysis revealed three themes: Actions and behaviors dependent on health workers; Routine practices as facilitators of work; and Restricting the parturients' participation in the decision-making process.
