Background: Differentiating neoplastic and non-neoplastic uveal tumours can present a diagnostic challenge; intra-ocular biopsy may be necessary. The novel trans-scleral Essen Forceps biopsy (TSEB) technique can improve diagnostic yield compared to fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). We present a case demonstrating the technique and its added value.

Introduction: Modern image-guided biopsy pathways at diagnostic centres have greatly refined the investigations of men referred with suspected prostate cancer. However, the referral criteria from primary care are still based on historical prostate-specific antigen (PSA) cut-offs and age-referenced thresholds. Here, we tested whether better contemporary pathways and biopsy methods had improved the predictive utility value of PSA referral thresholds.

Objectives: To determine the extent to which clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) can be detected in a routine National Health Service setting in men with no previous biopsy, when multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) is introduced into the diagnostic pathway.

Patients And Methods: In all, 1 090 mpMRIs were performed between July 2013 and April 2016 in biopsy-naïve men with an abnormal prostate-specific antigen level and/or digital rectal examination. Data were collected from patient records at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.
