Background: Gliomas with FGFR3::TACC3 fusion mainly occur in adults, display pathological features of glioblastomas (GB) and are usually classified as glioblastoma, IDH-wildtype. However, cases demonstrating pathological features of low-grade glioma (LGG) lead to difficulties in classification and clinical management. We report a series of 8 GB and 14 LGG with FGFR3:TACC3 fusion in order to better characterize them.

Marburg variant is a severe and fulminant pseudotumor form of multiple sclerosis (MS) with high morbidity and mortality rates. Because of its scarcity, it remains incompletely characterized and physicians' experiences will influence the treatment. We report the inflammatory explosive case of a 31-year-old woman presenting with rapid neurological degradation of histology proven Marburg's disease, successfully treated with early administration of Mitoxantrone (MITX).

Article Synopsis
  • Recent studies show that brain tumors are more complicated than we thought, with different types and genetic differences that can't be seen just by looking at them under a microscope.
  • A specific group of these tumors, mainly found in kids, have a rare genetic change called PATZ1 fusions, which means they are more connected than previously believed.
  • Even though these tumors can often come back, they generally have a better outlook than typical aggressive tumors like glioblastoma, and researchers are looking into new treatment options based on their unique features.

Background: Diffuse hemispheric gliomas, H3 G34-mutant (DHG H3G34-mutant) constitute a distinct type of aggressive brain tumors. Although initially described in children, they can also affect adults. The aims of this study were to describe the characteristics of DHG H3G34-mutant in adults and to compare them to those of established types of adult WHO grade IV gliomas.

Cutaneous larva migrans is a dermatitis, typically acquired in warm tropical or sub-tropical countries, caused by migration of the larvae of nematodes (hookworm; mainly Ancylostoma braziliense and, occasionally, Ancylostoma caninum or Uncinaria stenocephala), which are parasitic on animals such as cats and dogs, into the patient's skin. The larvae penetrate the skin after contact with infected soil and cause a typical creeping eruption. Patients with cutaneous larva migrans seen in Europe have usually acquired the disease following a stay in a tropical or sub-tropical area.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the therapeutic impact and diagnostic accuracy of F-DOPA PET/CT in patients with glioblastoma or brain metastases.

Methods: Patients with histologically proven glioblastoma or brain metastases were prospectively included in this monocentric clinical trial (IMOTEP). Patients were included either due to a clinical suspicion of relapse or to assess residual tumor infiltration after treatment.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a common tumor predisposition syndrome in which glioma is one of the prevalent tumors. Gliomagenesis in NF1 results in a heterogeneous spectrum of low- to high-grade neoplasms occurring during the entire lifespan of patients. The pattern of genetic and epigenetic alterations of glioma that develops in NF1 patients and the similarities with sporadic glioma remain unknown.

Introduction: This qualitative study aimed to explore the real life experience of the patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at the time they receive the diagnosis.

Methods: Data were collected using face to face interviews in general practice as well as focus groups in a pulmonary rehabilitation centre.

Results: Thirty-four patients participated in the study.

Introduction: Pulmonary intravascular talcosis is a rare condition occurring in intravenous drug users injecting oral medications. Talc results in a foreign-body granulomatous reaction giving a radiological haematogenic miliary appearance mimicking miliary tuberculosis. Drug users represent a population at risk for both these conditions and their distinction may be challenging.

Background: The randomized controlled trial (RCT) is the gold standard to objectively assess the effect of treatments. To help improve the quality of RCTs, experts established a list of recommendations, the CONsolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) Statement. In this study, we evaluated the implementation of the CONSORT Statement in the field of high-grade gliomas in adult patients and looked for criteria associated with higher quality of RCTs.

Introduction: Lung resection for cancer is the cause of significant postoperative pain. The aim of this study was to determine whether pulmonary rehabilitation could induce a resurgence of pain.

Methods: In 2014 and 2015, pulmonary rehabilitation was offered to all patients referred to our institution after lung resection for cancer.

Introduction: Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) for patients undergoing lung resection for cancer remains controversial. We studied the effects of PR, its impact on quality of life and the level of anxiety and depression.

Methods: In 2011 and 2012, PR was offered to all patients referred to our institution after lung resection for cancer.

Diffuse adult high-grade gliomas (HGGs) with necrosis encompass anaplastic oligodendrogliomas (AOs) with necrosis (grade III), glioblastomas (GBM, grade IV) and glioblastomas with an oligodendroglial component (GBMO, grade IV). Here, we aimed to search for prognostic relevance of histological classification and molecular alterations of these tumors. About 210 patients were included (63 AO, 56 GBM and 91 GBMO).

Background: The aim of this study was to correlate histological features and molecular characteristics in anaplastic oligodendrogliomas (AOs).

Methods: The histological characteristics of 203 AO patients, enrolled in the French national network POLA, were analyzed. The genomic profiles of 191 cases were studied using genomic arrays.

Introduction: The aim of this work was to study the vaccination coverage against influenza and pneumococcus in patients admitted to a pulmonary care department.

Methods: Between September 2010 and August 2011, we conducted a prospective observational study of patients admitted to our institution. A history of vaccination against influenza and pneumococcus was sought systematically using a standardized questionnaire.
