Article Synopsis
  • In Viet Nam, a study utilizing the "Double X" strategy was implemented to diagnose tuberculosis (TB) by combining chest radiographs, computer-aided detection, and GeneXpert testing, revealing that many individuals with pulmonary TB might be asymptomatic.
  • The research analyzed the characteristics of symptomatic and asymptomatic participants, finding that over half of those with confirmed TB were subclinical, with particular demographic trends noted (e.g., older age groups, non-smokers).
  • Results suggested that computer-aided detection of specific radiographic abnormalities, such as fibrosis, could be effective in identifying subclinical TB cases, emphasizing its role in community TB screening efforts.

Countries that are high burden for TB must reverse the COVID-19 pandemic's devastating effects to accelerate progress toward ending TB. Vietnam's Double X (2X) strategy uses chest radiography (CXR) and GeneXpert (Xpert) rapid diagnostic testing to improve early detection of TB disease. Household contacts and vulnerable populations (e.

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) represents a rare, insidiously progressive disease of the pulmonary system, marked by cystic degradation of lung tissues leading to respiratory compromise. Pulmonary LAM has been identified as being associated with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) in its pulmonary manifestation (TSC-LAM), a multisystem genetic disorder resulting from mutations in either the or genes. Herein, we describe an early 20s female admitted to the hospital with dyspnea, chest pain, hypopigmented macules, and facial fibroadenomas.

In Vietnam, chest radiography (CXR) is used to refer people for GeneXpert (Xpert) testing to diagnose tuberculosis (TB), demonstrating high yield for TB but a wide range of CXR abnormality rates. In a multi-center implementation study, computer-aided detection (CAD) was integrated into facility-based TB case finding to standardize CXR interpretation. CAD integration was guided by a programmatic framework developed for routine implementation.

Cystic pulmonary tuberculosis is a unique form of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) presenting with multiple reversible cysts of the lung. Unlike the other forms, this cystic lung disease can improve with prompt tuberculosis treatments. Here we report the case of a 15-year-old girl who presented with respiratory failure and severe lung damage at hospital admission.
