Mortality and morbidity from tuberculous meningitis (TBM) are common, primarily due to inflammatory response to infection, yet the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. We aimed to uncover genes and pathways associated with TBM pathogenesis and mortality, and determine the best predictors of death, utilizing whole-blood RNA sequencing from 281 Vietnamese adults with TBM, 295 pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), and 30 healthy controls. Through weighted gene co-expression network analysis, we identified hub genes and pathways linked to TBM severity and mortality, with a consensus analysis revealing distinct patterns between HIV-positive and HIV-negative individuals.

Purpose: There is a lack of systematic solutions to manage supportive care issues in racial/ethnic minorities (REM) receiving treatment for cancer. We developed and implemented an electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO)-driven symptom management tool led by oncology pharmacists in a majority-minority cancer center located in Southern California. This study was designed to evaluate the implementation outcomes of our multilevel intervention.

Engagement of a community advisory group to shape and build up participation in TB research.

It is essential that communities at risk from TB are involved in TB research. Community advisory groups (CAGs) are one mechanism for involving communities in research and creating platforms for discussions between researchers and community members. We organised a CAG meeting with community members and people with lived experience in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to explore the community's knowledge about TB and their perspectives on different diagnostic tests in Vietnam, a low-middle-income country with a high TB burden.

Characterizing the mechanism of action for mRNA therapeutics for the treatment of propionic acidemia, methylmalonic acidemia, and phenylketonuria.

Messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutics delivered via lipid nanoparticles hold the potential to treat metabolic diseases caused by protein deficiency, including propionic acidemia (PA), methylmalonic acidemia (MMA), and phenylketonuria (PKU). Herein we report results from multiple independent preclinical studies of mRNA-3927 (an investigational treatment for PA), mRNA-3705 (an investigational treatment for MMA), and mRNA-3210 (an investigational treatment for PKU) in murine models of each disease. All 3 mRNA therapeutics exhibited pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) responses in their respective murine model by driving mRNA, protein, and/or protein activity responses, as well as by decreasing levels of the relevant biomarker(s) when compared to control-treated animals.

A Vulvovaginal Yeast Infection Caused by in Vietnam: A Rare Case Report.

Cases of vulvovaginitis caused by genus are exceedingly uncommon, with only a handful of instances having been described for this causative species. This report describes a rare case of vulvovaginitis suspected to be caused by in a 58-year-old woman residing in an urban area of Hanoi city, Vietnam. The patient with a 10-year history of depression and type 2 diabetes mellitus was admitted to the hospital due to vulvar itching and vaginal discharge.

Spatial Analysis of Drug-Susceptible and Multidrug-Resistant Cases of Tuberculosis, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, 2020-2023.

We characterized the spatial distribution of drug-susceptible (DS) and multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis (TB) cases in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, a major metropolis in southeastern Asia, and explored demographic and socioeconomic factors associated with local TB burden. Hot spots of DS and MDR TB incidence were observed in the central parts of Ho Chi Minh City, and substantial heterogeneity was observed across wards. Positive spatial autocorrelation was observed for both DS TB and MDR TB.

The Ability of a 3-Gene Host Signature in Blood to Distinguish Tuberculous Meningitis From Other Brain Infections.

Background: Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is difficult to diagnose. We investigated whether a 3-gene host response signature in blood can distinguish TBM from other brain infections.

Methods: The expression of 3 genes (dual specificity phosphatase 3 [DUSP3], guanylate-binding protein [GBP5], krupple-like factor 2 [KLF2]) was analyzed by RNA sequencing of archived whole blood from 4 cohorts of Vietnamese adults: 281 with TBM, 279 with pulmonary tuberculosis, 50 with other brain infections, and 30 healthy controls.

An Approach for 3D Modeling of the Regular Relief Surface Topography Formed by a Ball Burnishing Process Using 2D Images and Measured Profilograms.

Advanced in the present paper is an innovative approach for three-dimensional modeling of the regular relief topography formed via a ball burnishing process. The proposed methodology involves capturing a greyscale image of and profile measuring the surface topography in two perpendicular directions using a stylus method. A specially developed algorithm further identifies the best match between the measured profile segment and a row or column from the captured topography image by carrying out a signal correlation assessment based on an appropriate similarity metric.

Relationship between financial inclusion, monetary policy and financial stability: An analysis in high financial development and low financial development countries.

This article studies the linkage between financial inclusion, monetary policy and financial stability in 58 countries including 31 high financial development countries (HFDCs) and 27 low financial development countries (LFDCs) from 2004 to 2020 using the PVAR method. Results of impulse - response function suggest that in LFDCs, while financial inclusion and financial stability are positively correlated, they are negatively correlated with the inflation rate and the money supply growth rate. In HFDCs, financial inclusion is positively corelated with inflation rate and money supply growth rate, while financial stability is negatively correlated with financial inclusion, inflation rate and money supply growth rate.

Research of the Ball Burnishing Impact over Cold-Rolled Sheets of AISI 304 Steel Fatigue Life Considering Their Anisotropy.

The present work focusses on the research of the plastic deformation accumulated effect obtained after two different plastic deformation treatments, over the fatigue life of AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel. The research is focused on ball burnishing as a finishing process to form specific, so-called "regular micro-reliefs" (RMRs) on a pre-rolled stainless-steel sheet. RMRs are formed using a CNC (Computerized Numerically Controlled) milling machine and toolpaths with the shortest unfolded length, generated by an improved algorithm, based on the Euclidean Distance calculation.

Acute and sub-acute toxicity evaluation of Merremia tridentata (L.) stem extract on mice.

The acute and sub-acute toxicity studies were performed in male and female Swiss albino mice as per the guidelines mentioned in OECD. The oral administration of M. tridentata stem extract (MSE) showed no treatment-related mortality and body weight change in mice up to the single dose of 30,000 mg/kg body weight in the acute toxicity study and up to a dose of 30,000 mg/kg/day body weight in the sub-acute toxicity study.

The asymmetric effects of institutional quality on financial inclusion in the Asia-pacific region.

Financial inclusions are generally considered an effective mechanism to support sustainable economic growth in emerging markets. While the symmetric effects of institutional quality on financial inclusion have been widely investigated, their asymmetric effects have largely been ignored in existing literature, particularly for emerging markets. In this paper, we estimate the index of financial inclusion for 19 countries in the Asia-Pacific region from 2004 to 2020.
