An improvement to Hummers' method involving a cascade-design graphite oxidation reaction is reported to optimize safety and efficiency in the production of graphite oxide (GrO) and graphene oxide (GO). Chemical reduction using highly alkaline ammonia solution is a novel approach to synthesizing reduced graphene oxide (RGO). In this original research, we revisit the oxidation and reduction reactions, providing significant findings regarding the synthetic pathway to obtain a bioinspired water-intercalated hydrogel of RGO nanosheets.

In this investigation, cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (CFO NPs) were synthesized using a hydrothermal method. Then, silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were decorated on CFO NPs to form Ag/CFO NPs using jasmine extract as a reducing agent of Ag ions. The properties of Ag/CFO NPs were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, and catalytic tests in non-radiation conditions.

A photonic crystal fiber (PCF) made of fused silica glass, infiltrated with carbon tetrachloride (CCl), is proposed as a new source of supercontinuum (SC) light. Guiding properties in terms of effective refractive index, attenuation, and dispersion of the fundamental mode are studied numerically. As a result, two optimized structures are selected and verified against SC generation in detail.

Here, we synthesized copper(i) oxide and titanium dioxide nanotubes (TNTs) heterojunctions (HJs) by a photoreduction method using a low-power UV lamp without involving any additional steps, such as chemical reduction, surfactant, or protection agents. Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman scattering, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectra, and photoluminescence spectroscopy were carried out to verify the formation of a HJ between the CuO nanoparticles (CuO NPs) and TNTs. The efficiency and the rate of methylene blue photo-degradation over the CuO/TNTs HJ were found to be nearly double and triple compared to the isolated TNTs.
