Background: Due to their invasiveness, arterial lines are not typically used in routine monitoring, despite their superior responsiveness in hemodynamic monitoring and detecting intraoperative hypotension. To address this issue, noninvasive, continuous arterial pressure monitoring is necessary. We developed a deep-learning model that reconstructs continuous mean arterial pressure (MAP) using the photoplethysmograhy (PPG) signal and compared it to the arterial line gold standard.

Literature suggests that the use of low-dose peripheral norepinephrine (NOR) reduces organ dysfunction, yet its administration remains unstandardized. In this work we develop a pharmacokinetic (PK)/pharmacodynamic (PD) model of NOR and its effect on mean arterial pressure (MAP).

We hypothesise that monitoring the intraoperative global afterload angle (GALA), a proxy of ventricular afterload derived from the velocity pressure (VP) loop, could better predict changes in postoperative biomarkers than the recommended traditional MAP and CO.
Method: This retrospective monocentric study included patients programmed for neurosurgery with continuous VP loop monitoring.
The thermal dynamics and transient optical response of individual gold nanodisks supported on thin silicon nitride membranes were investigated using optical time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy and finite-element modeling. The effect of reducing the membrane thickness from 50 nm to 15 nm on the nanodisk thermal dynamics was explored. A significant deceleration of the nanodisk cooling kinetics was observed, and linked to a quasi-two-dimensional heat diffusion process within the 15 nm thick membrane, without detectable modification of its thermal conductivity.

Here, we explored repurposing EEG monitoring from general anaesthesia for brain-age modelling using machine learning. We hypothesised that brain age estimated from EEG during general anaesthesia is associated with perioperative risk.

Consequently, international guidelines recommend normocapnia in mechanically ventilated patients with acute brain injury. The measurement of end-tidal capnography (Et co2 ) allows its approximation.

Experiments demonstrate a strong substrate-dependence of these cooling dynamics, which require the combination of heat transfer at the nanodisk/substrate interface and heat diffusion in the substrate. In the case of nanodisks deposited on a thick sapphire substrate, the dynamics are found to be mostly limited by the thermal resistance of the gold/sapphire interface, for which a value similar to that obtained in the context of previous experiments on sapphire-supported single gold nanodisks produced by electron beam lithography is deduced.

Nevertheless, direct experimental evidence of the energy-dependent femtosecond dynamics in ubiquitous tens-of-nanometer gold structures remains elusive, despite the potentially rich interplay between interfacial and internal plasmonic fields, excitation distributions, and scattering processes. To explore the effects of nanoscale structure on these dynamics, we employ simultaneous time-, angle-, and energy-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of single plasmonic nanoparticles.

The electroencephalogram (EEG) could provide information on cognitive vulnerability. The feasibility and clinical relevance of sleep EEG (EEG ) compared to intraoperative EEG (EEG ) in cognitive risk stratification remains to be explored.

Stenting is an effective treatment after demonstration of a trans-stenotic pressure gradient; however, pressure measurement has many technical limitations. In 2018, a study showed that a combined approach with intravascular velocity measurement could be effective in identifying most appropriate candidates for stenting.

In this context water immersed carbon nanotubes (CNTs) may act as an ideal optoacoustic source, due to their nanometric radial dimensions, peculiar thermal properties and broad band optical absorption. The generation mechanism of acoustic waves in water, upon excitation of both a single-wall (SW) and a multi-wall (MW) CNT with laser pulses of temporal width ranging from 5 ns down to ps, is theoretically investigated via a multiscale approach.

During general anaesthesia, this mechanism may not compensate for reductions in MAP leading to brain hypoperfusion. Cerebral autoregulation can be assessed using the mean flow index derived from Doppler measurements of average blood velocity in the middle cerebral artery, but this is impractical for routine monitoring within the operating room.

To help physicians in the early management of severe TBI, we have designed a visual score (ICEBERG score) including multimodal monitoring and treatment-related criteria. We evaluated the ICEBERG scores among patients with severe TBI to predict the 28-day mortality and long-term disability (Extended Glasgow Outcome Scale score at 3 years).

We aimed to assess the distribution of symptomatic cerebral vasospasm following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) using CB-CTA.
Methods: 30 consecutive patients with aSAH undergoing vasospasm percutaneous balloon angioplasty (PBA) were recruited and underwent CB-CTA in this single-center prospective cohort series.
Photoplethysmography (PPG) has been extensively used for pulse oximetry monitoring in anaesthesia, perioperative and intensive care. However, some components of PPG signal have been employed for other purposes, such as non-invasive haemodynamic monitoring. Perfusion index (PI) is derived from PPG signal and represents the ratio of pulsatile on non-pulsatile light absorbance or reflectance of the PPG signal.

The global afterload angle (GALA), derived from the Vel-Pre loops, has been linked to cardiac afterload indicators. As age is the major determinant of constitutive arterial stiffness, we aimed to describe (1) the evolution of the GALA according to age in a large cohort of anesthetized patients and (2) GALA variations induced by haemodynamic interventions.

We evaluated the precision and accuracy using the trending ability of the MBA method to estimate absolute CO and variations (ΔCO) during hemodynamic challenges. We reviewed the hemodynamic challenges (fluid challenge or vasopressors) performed when intra-operative hypotension occurred during non-cardiac surgery.

The synthetic pathway includes three main stages: the synthesis of silica/polystyrene multipod templates, the regioselective seeded growth of a gold shell on the unmasked part of the silica surface and the development of gold nanocages by dissolving/etching the templates. Electron microscopy and tomography provide evidence of the symmetrical features of the as-obtained nanostructures.
