Background: Open mesh repair is one of the most frequently performed general surgery operations worldwide. Unfortunately, the classic technique using stitches to fix the mesh is still associated with a high risk of chronic pain. A 74-year-old man presented with acute small bowel obstruction secondary to recurrence of a caecal tumour. The patient underwent laparotomy and formation of loop ileostomy and had a nasogastric tube (NGT) inserted in the theatre. This study presents a method for treating and structurally improving articulations affected by degenerative joint disease (DJD).
