The stress-related neuropeptide, corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF), is prominent in neurons of the pontine micturition center, Barrington's nucleus. These neurons co-innervate spinal preganglionic neurons that control the bladder, and locus coeruleus (LC) neurons that provide norepinephrine innervation throughout the brain. Adeno-associated viral (AAV) vector-mediated transfer of CRF cDNA was used to increase CRF expression in Barrington's nucleus neurons and investigate the impact of a gain of function in Barrington's nucleus spinal and LC projections.

However, low prevalence rates of the blues have been reported recently in studies of Japanese women. The purposes of this study are, firstly, to establish whether the low prevalence noted in Japanese women is also found in another group of Asian women, that is, Hong Kong Chinese women, and secondly, to describe the manifestations of the blues in this group of women.

Background: Postnatal depression affects approximately 1 in 10 childbearing women in Hong Kong. However, most studies of postnatal depression have been carried out in Western societies and no qualitative research was found describing the experience of Hong Kong Chinese mothers with postnatal depression.
