Specificity and sensitivity of the Self-assessment of Negative Symptoms (SNS) in patients with schizophrenia.

Objectives: Negative symptoms can be present at any stage of schizophrenia but their evaluation remains challenging. Self-evaluations may be particularly useful in screening negative symptoms quickly and effectively. The purpose of this study was to determine the sensitivity, the specificity, and the threshold beyond which the negative symptoms are considered pathological in a comparative study between patients with schizophrenia and healthy subjects using the Self-assessment of Negative Symptoms (SNS).

A manic episode with psychotic features improved by methylprednisolone in a patient with multiple sclerosis.

Several studies have reported a higher prevalence of unipolar depression and bipolar disorder among patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). However, only a few studies have reported manic episodes concomitant with new lesions enhanced by gadolinium on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Here we report the case of a 47-year-old woman suffering from MS admitted for a manic episode with psychotic features.

Charles Bonnet syndrome and vitamin B12 deficiency: a case report.

The Charles Bonnet syndrome (CBS) is a condition associated with complex visual hallucinations occurring in the elderly in patients with visual impairment and normal mental health. Here, we report the case of a 78-year-old woman who has a limited visual acuity with a CBS that we postulated to be in relationship to a vitamin B12 deficiency. This case is the first report of vitamin B12 deficiency-associated CBS.
