Despite the great number of experimental investigations in the area of psycho-neuro-endocrine-immunology showing that endocrine, nervous, and immune systems cannot be in vivo physiologically separated, the diagnosis and therapies of the pathologies of these three functional biological systems continue to be separately performed from a clinical practice point of view. The separation between experimental and clinical medicine became dramatic after the discovery of more than 10 human molecules provided by anti-inflammatory and antitumor activity, completely devoid of any toxicity, which may be subdivided into three fundamental classes, consisting of the pineal indole, beta-carboline, and methoxy-kynuramine hormones. Moreover, human systemic diseases, including cancer, autoimmunity, and cardiovascular pathologies, despite their different pathogenesis and symptomatology, are commonly characterized by a progressive decline in the endogenous production of pineal hormones, endocannabinoids, and Ang 1-7, with a consequent inflammatory status and diminished natural resistance against cancer.

The fast-ion phase-space distribution function in the magnetic fusion devices is always underdiagnosed, and every new fast-ion diagnostic should be carefully assessed before installation to minimize redundancies in measurements and maximize the information from the yet undiagnosed part of the fast-ion phase space distribution function. Here, we present a novel method of assessing the added value of a considered fast-ion diagnostic, taking actual geometry and an existing set of fast-ion diagnostics into account. We present a fully relativistic analytical model for calculating synthetic spectra from beam-target fusion reactions. When the target particle is assumed at rest, Monte Carlo sampling of reactant velocities can be avoided, and spectrum computations are considerably faster. A fully analytical treatment additionally gives more insight into the spectrum formation.

To verify whether the new hemodynamic definition of pulmonary hypertension (PH) has any implication in treatment of Chronic Thrombo-Embolic Pulmonary Disease (CTEPD) patients without PH, we retrospectively analysed the clinical and functional changes determined by pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) in 63 CTEPD patients without PH who underwent surgery at our center, comparing those in whom the hemodynamic diagnosis of PH met recent guideline recommendations versus those in whom the diagnosis only met previous hemodynamic thresholds. The results show that the vast majority of CTEPD patients without PH operated at our center would now be defined as chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) patients. PEA did not result in any improvement in exercise capacity nor in right ventricular function or lung function test in patients with mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) ≤ 20 mm Hg and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) ≤ 2 WU; on the contrary, hemodynamic parameters, exercise capacity, right ventricular function and lung function significantly improved in patients with mPAP between 21 and 24 mm Hg.

Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding provides an efficient approach for documenting biodiversity patterns in marine and terrestrial ecosystems. The complexity of these data prevents current methods from extracting and analyzing all the relevant ecological information they contain, and new methods may provide better dimensionality reduction and clustering. Selective photocatalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde and reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline reactions are investigated by using SiO2@TiO2 spheres produced in a simple route using chitosan as a template. The spheres are predominantly macroporous and, the XRD points out an amorphous crystallographic profile suggesting the uniform distribution of TiO2. Under low-power lighting for 4 hours, the conversions achieved was of the order of 49% and 99% for benzyl alcohol and nitrobenzene, respectively, with selectivity to benzaldehyde and aniline of 99% in both reactions.
