Restless sleep disorder (RSD) is a condition recently described by a group of sleep experts who developed diagnostic and polysomnographic criteria after conducting a comprehensive review of the available literature where poor sleep or restless sleep is a symptom alone or that accompanies other disorders. This group defined RSD as a condition characterized by parental complaints of frequent jerking movements during sleep, position changes, and sleep disruption that cause significant impairment during the day. Diagnostic criteria include the presence of symptoms for at least 3 months, 3 times a week, and at least 5 movements per hour on polysomnography.
