Background: Incidence and survival rates in patients with cancer are rising as well as the potential rehabilitation needs. In contrast, the numbers of rehabilitation treatments after cancer are decreasing. The reasons are not yet completely understood.

Prognostic significance of atrial fibrillation in acute decompensated heart failure with reduced versus preserved ejection fraction.

Objective: The prognostic impact of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) has not been fully elucidated yet. Aim of the present study was thus to investigate the association of AF with all-cause mortality in patients with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).

Methods: We performed a retrospective single center study and analyzed data of 1286 patients admitted for ADHF.

Pneumonia and inflammation in acute decompensated heart failure: a registry-based analysis of 1939 patients.

Background: The prognostic impact of pneumonia and signs of systemic inflammation in patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) has not been fully elucidated yet. The aim of the present study was thus to investigate the association of pneumonia and the inflammation surrogate C-reactive protein with all-cause mortality in patients admitted for ADHF.

Inferior vena cava (IVC) diameter can be used to approximate right atrial pressure in patients admitted for acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF). Recent studies linked IVC dilation to an increased risk of early re-admission and short-term mortality. Moreover, renal insufficiency (RI) is an established risk factor for mortality in ADHF and is associated with congestion.
