Background: Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are benign, blood-filled neoplasms causing bone destruction, often requiring resection. However, challenges arise, especially at the cranio-cervical junction, where proximity to critical structures limits removal. Non-surgical options include selective arterial embolization (SAE) as main treatment, while Denosumab and centrifugated bone marrow emerge as experimental alternatives.

Article Synopsis
  • * Data from 670 patients revealed that while IVT may improve some outcomes, such as higher chances of achieving a modified Rankin Scale score of 0-2 in univariable analysis, this benefit was not consistently observed in more rigorous multivariable analyses.
  • * Overall, the findings suggest that adjunctive IVT may not significantly enhance clinical outcomes or safety compared to MT alone for this patient population.

  • Mechanical thrombectomy is the standard treatment for large vessel occlusions, but there's limited evidence for its effectiveness in treating distal and medium vessel occlusions, particularly for patients with low stroke scale scores (≤6).
  • A study analyzed data from 41 academic centers, comparing outcomes of low versus higher stroke scale score patients who underwent thrombectomy, revealing high successful reperfusion rates in both groups.
  • Results showed that patients with lower stroke scale scores experienced better functional outcomes and lower mortality rates, but the treatment's effectiveness compared to intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) is still uncertain.

Background: Interruption of the fistulous point is the goal of treatment of spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas (dAVFs). Microsurgery remains a highly efficient treatment in terms of complete occlusion with the lowest risk of recurrence rate. It is reported that the hardest step involves finding the fistulous site itself, potentially extending surgical access and time and increasing potential postoperative surgical-related complications.

Background: Optimal anesthetic strategy for the endovascular treatment of stroke is still under debate. Despite scarce data concerning anesthetic management for medium and distal vessel occlusions (MeVOs) some centers empirically support a general anesthesia (GA) strategy in these patients.

Methods: We conducted an international retrospective study of MeVO cases.

Lupins ( spp.) are legumes with high relevance for the sustainability of agricultural systems as they improve the soil quality, namely, through the fixation of atmospheric nitrogen, and have good adaptability to different climates and soil conditions. Besides, they possess high nutritive value, especially due to the high protein content of the seeds.

The identification of crops that simultaneously contribute to the global protein supply and mitigate the effects of climate change is an urgent matter. Lupins are well adapted to nutrient-poor or contaminated soils, tolerate various abiotic stresses, and present relevant traits for acting as ecosystem engineers. Lupins are best studied for their seeds, but their full foraging potential needs further evaluation.

  • Deep endometriosis (DE) can be hard to treat because it can affect important areas in the body, which might need complicated surgery.
  • Doctors think that some harmful growths related to DE are more serious than others and need careful checking to plan the best treatment.
  • Recent studies showed that special ultrasound tests can help doctors find problems in the area affected by DE, but it's tough to treat these issues without surgery due to risks and complications.

The rumen batch technique is widely used for screening novel feed sources; however, it remains unclear to what extent the fermentability of non-conventional feed sources is affected by non-adapted ruminal inocula. Thus, in this study, we evaluated the effects of distinct ruminal inocula on the fermentation parameters of a sustainable non-conventional feed, a commercially available algal blend composed of microalgae ( and ) and seaweeds ( sp. and ).

Objectives: Combined treatment of ablation and chemoembolization for hepatocellular carcinoma represents a promising therapy to increase treatment efficacy and improve patient survival. The "hug sign" is a recently introduced radiological sign consisting in deposition of beads/contrast agent during transarterial chemoembolization in the hyperemic area surrounding the post-ablation volume, seen during intraprocedural unenhanced cone-beam CT, that may indicate intraprocedural success. Aim of our retrospective study was to analyze the usefulness of the "hug sign" at the intraprocedural unenhanced cone-beam CT as an early predictor of response to combined treatment, based on the hug sign angle.

Background: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) has revolutionized the treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to large vessel occlusion (LVO), but its efficacy and safety in medium vessel occlusion (MeVO) remain less explored. This multicenter, retrospective study aims to investigate the incidence and clinical outcomes of vessel perforations (confirmed by extravasation during an angiographic series) during MT for AIS caused by MeVO.

Methods: Data were collected from 37 academic centers across North America, Asia, and Europe between September 2017 and July 2021.

Infant formulae are the only possible alternative to breastfeeding during the first year of life, so it is crucial to assure their innocuousness. Infant formula undergoes heat treatments to ensure safety and shelf life. However, such processes impact health as they lead to the formation of malondialdehyde, acrolein, and α-dicarbonyl compounds, related to Maillard reaction.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how general anesthesia (GA) compares to conscious sedation/local anesthesia (CS/LA) in patients with minor strokes undergoing immediate mechanical thrombectomy (iMT).
  • The research involved analyzing data from 16 stroke centers, focusing on patients with isolated M2 occlusions and mild stroke severity, utilizing propensity score matching for a fair comparison.
  • Results showed no significant difference in patient outcomes or complications between those receiving GA or CS/LA, indicating that the choice of anesthesia does not impact recovery or procedural safety in these cases.

Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas (dAVFs) are abnormal connections between the meningeal branches of segmental arteries and a radiculomedullary veins that result in a progressive myelopathy thanks to perimedullary coronal venous plexus congestion. Usually, dAVFs show nonspecific symptoms, thus leading to late clinical suspicion and a difficult MRI diagnosis.Several authors have tried to identify prognostic factors before treatment, but published studies results are often inconsistent and sometimes contradictory.
