Background: Proximal femoral varus osteotomy (PFVO) is commonly performed to improve femoral head containment and decrease deformity in Legg-Calve-Perthes disease (LCPD). Little is known about how PFVO impacts the quality of life after surgery. The purpose of this study was to determine the longitudinal changes to patient-reported physical, mental, and social health measures after PFVO.

Objective: To understand the influence of acute alcohol consumption on the recall and recognition of warning messages.
Method: Participants ( = 82) were randomly assigned to a condition where they consumed alcoholic beverages (target blood alcohol concentrations of 0.06%-0.
Objectives: To investigate clinical characteristics, symptom profile, testing practices, treatment patterns and quality of life (QoL) among patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in Latin America.
Design: Data from the Adelphi Real World PAH Disease Specific Programme, a cross-sectional survey with retrospective data collection.
Setting: University/teaching hospital, regional centres, private practices and government institutions in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.
Digital twins represent a key technology for precision health. Medical digital twins consist of computational models that represent the health state of individual patients over time, enabling optimal therapeutics and forecasting patient prognosis. Many health conditions involve the immune system, so it is crucial to include its key features when designing medical digital twins.

In this regard, recognizing the significance of sex and gender becomes indispensable for meeting the distinct healthcare needs of diverse populations. To this end, continuing a trend of improving data quality observed since 2014, the European Genome-phenome Archive (EGA) established a policy in 2018 that mandates data providers to declare the sex of donor samples, aiming to enhance data accuracy and prevent imbalance in sex classification.

Several studies and reviews have examined the risk of cancer among patients with multiple sclerosis treated with disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) but with conflicting results. This study will aim to investigate the association between DMTs for multiple sclerosis and subsequent cancer risk using research synthesis methods.

The results of that efficacy study indicated more clients attended the initial session when receiving the letter (77%) compared to receiving a reminder telephone call (51%). The present study examines the effectiveness of messages addressing prospective clients' motivation and expectations for outpatient gambling treatment across an entire treatment system.

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) is an aggressive disease with poor prognosis. It is known that the activation of STAT3 signaling pathways promotes the development and progression of this neoplasia and it has been described the role of PTPRT as a negative regulator of STAT3. Then, we have evaluated the impact of them as biomarkers of outcome in a series of patients with recurrent and/or metastatic SCCHN treated with weekly paclitaxel-plus-cetuximab (ERBITAX) regimen.

Although non-human models have led to fundamental discoveries about the organization of the nervous system midline by the floor plate, an experimental model of human floor plate would enable broader insights into regulation of human neurodevelopment and midline connectivity. Here, we have developed stem cell-derived organoids resembling human floor plate (hFpO) and assembled them with spinal cord organoids (hSpO) to generate midline assembloids (hMA).

Microrobots, untethered miniature devices capable of performing tasks at the microscale, have gained significant attention in the fields of robotics and biomedicine. These devices hold immense potential for various industrial and scientific applications, including targeted drug delivery and cell manipulation. In this study, we present a novel magnetic rolling helical microrobot specifically designed for bio-compatible cell patterning.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMicrorobots have emerged as promising tools for biomedical and in vivo applications, leveraging their untethered actuation capabilities and miniature size. Despite extensive research on diversifying multi-actuation modes for single types of robots, these tiny machines tend to have limited versatility while navigating different environments or performing specific tasks. To overcome such limitations, self-assembly microstructures with on-demand reconfiguration capabilities have gained recent attention as the future of biocompatible microrobotics, as they can address drug delivery, microsurgery, and organoid development processes.

In this first-principles work based on time-dependent density-functional theory, we investigate the structural, electronic, and optical properties of tin-halide molecules SnX , with and X=Cl, Br, I, simulating these compounds in vacuo as well as in an implicit solvent. We find that structural properties are very sensitive to the halogen species while the charge distribution is also affected by stoichiometry.

Method: Reading time data were recorded in the PROSPECTS Trial, a prospective randomised trial comparing DBT plus FFDM or synthetic 2D mammography (S2D) to FFDM alone, in the National Health Service (NHS) breast screening programme, from January 2019-February 2023. Time to read DBT+FFDM or DBT+S2D and FFDM alone was calculated per case and reading times were compared between modalities using dependent T-tests.
Boosting stretchability and electric output is critical for high-performance wearable triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG). Herein, for the first time, a new approach for tuning the composition of surface functional groups through surfactant self-assembly to improve the tribopositivity, where the assembly increases the transferred charge density and the relative permittivity of water polyurethane (WPU). Incorporating bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI) and alkali metal ions into a mixture of WPU and the surfactant forms a stretchable film that simultaneously functions as positive tribolayer and electrode, preventing the conventional detachment of tribolayer and electrode in long term usage.
