Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XPN) is an uncommon, but not rare, type of bacterial infection of the kidneys. Malignancies originating within the renal pelvis are uncommon. We report a case of XPN associated with a transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the renal pelvis in a 70-year-old woman.

The tumor predominantly affects young adults and occurs most commonly as a slowly growing asymptomatic solitary nodule in the head and neck region, trunk, and upper extremities.
Methods: A cutaneous PS located in the preauricular region of a 19-year-old white female is reported.
A 60-year-old woman had extensive and recurrent foreign-body granulomatous inflammation of her forehead. The granulomata contained double refractile crystalline material. Electron probe roentgenographic microanalysis identified silicon, calcium, aluminum, potassium, and sulphur in the crystalline material.

It represents a distinctive cutaneous nerve sheath tumor that consists of an overgrowth of both axons and Schwann cells and is surrounded by a complete or incomplete capsule of perineural cells. This entity warrants wider recognition by urologists and uropathologists.

The deterioration of renal function in these patients following liver transplantation and in chronic cirrhotics may be secondary to glomerular sclerosis, also known as "hepatic glomerulosclerosis". We utilized stereologic methods to quantify the volumetric changes in cirrhotic rats, fundamentally the glomerular changes, before and after transplantation into healthy rats.

The histological lesions have not been well defined or correlated with the functional changes observed in cirrhosis. Methods to induce experimental cirrhosis in the rat that reliably reproduce this disease have been developed.

A case of spindle-cell carcinoma developed on a proliferating trichilemmal tumour (PTT) is presented. The tumour on the scalp of an 84-year-old white woman was excised and histological examination showed typical features of PTT, but with a coexistent malignant spindle-cell tumour with a sarcomatoid appearance. There were some areas of transition between squamous trichilemmal epithelium and the neoplastic mass composed of atypical spindle-shaped cells.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA morphometric study was made of 95 invasive bladder tumours, differentiating 34 papillary and 61 solid carcinomas. In the invasive papillary tumours, the deeper the zone of the tumour measured, the higher the value of the mean nuclear area. A higher histological grade was also seen to correspond to a higher mean nuclear area value except for Grade IV tumours, whose nuclear area was no larger than that for Grade III tumours.

An attempt was made to correlate retrospectively the value of the mean nuclear area with histological grade and with survival. A higher value was obtained for the mean nuclear area of the internal papillary zone than for that of the external papillary zone.

The study assessed nuclear area, nuclear perimeter, major diameter, nucleolar area, nuclear shape factor, and nuclear size. There was a significant statistical correlation between survival and the morphometric parameters and between the parameters themselves except for nuclear shape factor.

Observations showed a gradual decrease in the number of mast cells/mm2, an increase in the percentage of MMC in a state of degranulation, but the same number of degranulated cells/mm2. This suggests that the vagus controls both numerically and functionally the MMC population in the secretory portion of the rat stomach.

Helicobacter pylori has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various gastrointestinal disorders and has occasionally been observed in Barrett's esophagus. The aim of this study is to determine the incidence of H.

This lesion seems to be a rare complication of hematometra with cervical occlusion. The foam cells would appear to be macrophages, components of a nonspecific inflammatory reaction, which have phagocytosed breakdown elements of retained endometrial hemorrhage.
