In recent decades, a promising area of physiotherapy has been intensively developed In Russia and abroad - magnetic therapy, based on the use of various types of magnetic fields for preventive, curative and rehabilitative purposes. The use of high-intensity pulsed magnetotherapy is promising. The effectiveness of the method in a number of diseases of childhood, which has an active stimulating effect on the state of the neuromuscular apparatus, has been proven.

One of new methods for the physiotherapeutic treatment in pediatrics is the application of the pulsed low-frequency electrostatic field the action of which is based on the effects of deep resonant vibration on the affected tissue region with the minimal mecha-nical impact. Under the influence of the electrostatic field, the tissues at the site of interest become tightened and descend which causes their vibration due to the alternation of the pulses and intervals between them. The fast consecutive repetition of this process results in rhythmical deformation of the tissues.

This literature review is focused on the application of polychromatic and monochromatic polarized light for the treatment of various diseases of the childhood including those in the newborns and the premature babies. The analysis of the data of scientific research gives evidence of the beneficial effect of polychromatic polarized light on the clinical course of various skin diseases in the newborn children. Moreover, the improved immunological and reparative processes were revealed after the surgical interventions for congenital heart defects in the newborns.

Atopic dermatitis takes the predominant position in the structure of skin pathologies in the children of various age. Both the scientifically based forecasts and the data of numerous investigations give evidence not only of the significant increase in the number of patients presenting with this condition but also of the growing severity of this disease. Taken together, these facts account for the serious medico-social importance of the problems arising in connection with this pathology.

Despite the recent achievements in diagnostics and pharmacotherapy of acute rhinosinusitis in the children, the problem of management of this pathology, thus far remains a serious challenge for practical medicine. The objective of the present study was to develop a scientifically sound rationale for the application of halotherapy (HT) and magnetic therapy (MT) or their combination for the treatment of acute rhinosinusitis in the children. The clinical observations and special investigations were carried out in the comparative aspect and encompassed 120 children at the age varying from 5 to 15 years suffering from acute rhinosinusitis.

In the present paper, we for the first time provide a rationale for the application of a new physical factor, pulsed magnetic stimulation, in pediatric practice. Our observations have demonstrated positive dynanfics of the parameters characterizing the functional state of the neuro-muscular apparatus and equalization of the amplitude of M-response as appears from the results of electromyographic studies. The data obtained by electrocardiography and estimation of the external respiratory function give evidence of favourable dynamics of the cardio-respiratory system.

The development of prophylactic treatment is one of most challenging and socially significant aspects of modern pediatrics. Today, a great variety of natural and artificial physical factors are employed to protect and/or restore the health of the children and to improve it. The broad scope of non-medicamentous technologies used for the purpose makes it possible to elaborate prophylactic programs adapted to the specific requirements of individual patients at all levels of medical care including therapeutic and prophylactic, spa and resort institutions, educational institutions, health improvement and recreational camps of different types, and home care.

The authors' studies show pathogenetic validity of using aromaphytotherapy in children predisposed to acute respiratory diseases. Courses of essential oils aromaphytotherapy produce a wide spectrum of physiological changes reducing frequency of the respiratory diseases, exacerbations of chronic ENT diseases in children.

A total of 168 patients with various ocular diseases were tested for Chlamydia. Scrapings off the conjunctiva were examined by the fluorescent antibody technique with monoclonal antibodies. A high diagnostic efficacy of the method in patients with acute and, which is even more important, with the subacute form of ophthalmic chlamydiasis was demonstrated.

Analysis of scrapings off the conjunctiva of patients with suspected adenoviral infection (n = 60) and ophthalmochlamydiasis (n = 132) by different diagnostic tests showed good prospects of using DNA hybridization: the efficacy of detecting adenoviral diseases of the eyes was 35% improved in comparison with the fluorescent antibody method with polyclonal serum and the diagnosis of ophthalmochlamydiasis was 22.8% improved in comparison with enzyme immunoassay.

Maxaquin (lomefloxacin), a new fluoroquinolone antibiotic, was used in combined therapy of chlamydial conjunctivitis. The results of treatment of 72 patients were assessed by the clinical manifestations and the laboratory time course of Chlamydia trachomatis antigen in smears from the conjunctiva, detected by enzyme immunoassay. Clinical and laboratory findings proved the high efficacy of the drug and its advantages over traditional therapy and other fluoroquinolones.

The possibility of using an antibiotic ciprofloxacin quinolone (siflox) in combined therapy of paratrachoma was investigated. Fifty patients with acute and subacute paratrachoma were included in the study. The drug efficacy was assessed by clinical results and laboratory findings: by the time course of the levels of Chlamydia trachomatis antigen in smears from the conjunctiva, measured by enzyme immunoassay (EIA) using the Abbott kit.
