Introduction: The majority of facial clefts are isolated developmental anomalies. In a minority of the cases, however, facial clefts may occur as part of particular genetic syndromes. Objective: We aimed to analyse the treatment of the syndromic patients and determine whether the algorithm of complex treatment – used in non-syndromic patients – has changed in patients who had syndromes.

Introduction: After the operations of rectal tumours following neoadjuvant chemo-radio therapy it is a common practice to create a defunctioning ileostomy in order to prevent complications due to anastomotic leak. The ileostomy itself can be the source of complications with 20–60% incidence rate, while dehydration causes 16.9–40% of readmissions.

Titania and carbon materials are intensively studied in composite materials including photocatalytic applications. Both positive and negative effects were described in the literature, including charge separation, adsorption enhancement and short-circuiting of the photoelectrons as well. In the present study a more sparsely investigated properties of carbon materials will be highlighted, namely their role as crystallization promoters for titania, during hydrothermal synthesis of the composites.

[The role of laparoscopy in the treatment of perforated gastro-duodenal ulcers].

Introduction: The incidence of peptic ulcer disease decreased due to proton pump inhibitors and Helicobacter pylori eradication. [Laparoscopic and open complete mesocolic excision in right-sided colon cancer compared with open and laparoscopic surgery].

BH3 mimetic drugs, which inhibit prosurvival BCL2 family proteins, have limited single-agent activity in solid tumor models. The potential of BH3 mimetics for these cancers may depend on their ability to potentiate the apoptotic response to chemotherapy and targeted therapies. Using a novel class of potent and selective MCL1 inhibitors, we demonstrate that concurrent MEK + MCL1 inhibition induces apoptosis and tumor regression in -mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) models, which respond poorly to MEK inhibition alone.

"Crystallographic" holes: new insights for a beneficial structural feature for photocatalytic applications.

One of the most fundamental aspects of the heterogeneous catalysis field is the manipulation of the catalysts' activity. In photocatalysis this is carried out by maximizing the right crystal plane of a semiconductor oxide. Examining the Behaviour subscale of the Hypoglycaemia Fear Survey: an international study.

Aims: The Hypoglycemia Fear Survey (HFS)-II Behaviour and Worry subscales were developed to measure behaviours and anxiety related to hypoglycaemia in diabetes. However, previous studies found lower reliability in the HFS Behaviour subscale and inconsistent relationships with glucose control. The purpose of this study was to conduct extensive analyses of the internal structure of the HFS Behaviour subscale's internal structure and its relationships with diabetes outcomes, including HbA1c and episodes of severe hypoglycaemia.

Patient perspectives on personalized glucose advisory systems for type 1 diabetes management.

Background: Diabetes technology is rapidly advancing toward fully automated glucose control systems, but little is known about patient perspectives on these systems. This study aimed to gather qualitative and quantitative data on patient attitudes and concerns about using a personalized glucose advisory system (PGASystem) for diabetes management.

Subjects And Methods: Fifty-six adults with type 1 diabetes on insulin pump therapy participated in focus group interviews following use of an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring for 4 weeks in a parent study to develop a PGASystem.

Driving safety: concerns and experiences of parents of adolescent drivers with type 1 diabetes.

Driving is a dangerous activity for adolescents, perhaps being even more precarious for adolescents with type 1 diabetes due to the possibility of extreme blood glucose (BG). There is no available data on adolescent driving safety concerns and type 1 diabetes. To begin addressing this issue, we surveyed parents regarding their observations and concerns.

Assessing fear of hypoglycemia in children with Type 1 diabetes and their parents.

This article summarizes the literature on fear of hypoglycemia in pediatric Type 1 diabetes and the assessment of this fear in both children with Type 1 diabetes and their parents. The most common instrument for assessing fear of hypoglycemia in this population is the children's and parent's versions of the Hypoglycemia Fear Survey (HFS), although studies using other assessment measures are also reviewed. Studies using this survey have identified variables contributing to fear of hypoglycemia in children with Type 1 diabetes and their parents, such as history of frequent or traumatic hypoglycemia, as well as trait anxiety.

Water treatment method was developed for the removal of different anionic dyes such as methyl orange and indigo carmine, and also for thymol applying sodium bentonite and cationic surfactant - hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HTAB) - or polyelectrolytes (polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride, poly-DADMAC and poly-amines). The removal efficiency of these model substrates was examined in model water using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, HPLC and TOC analysis.
