Context: Postoperative sleep and circadian rhythm disturbances were associated with prolonged postoperative convalescence, respiratory, and cardiovascular morbidity. Sleep disturbances have been shown to be due to decreased levels of circulating melatonin after surgery. If this sleep pattern and circadian rhythm are recycled, outcome after surgery could be improved.
