Biomechanically and Periodontally-Based Orthodontic Treatment of a Patient with Upper Canine Affected by External Cervical Resorption (ECR): A Case Report.

(1) Background: Orthodontic treatment may be a potential predisposing factor for ECR. The affected tooth goes to ankylosis, which could lead to a malocclusion. Although teeth severely affected by ECR (class IV Heithersay) are usually extracted, this case report aims to present the use of an ECR class IV upper canine, both as ankylosed to solve the malocclusion and the occlusal plane canting, as well as not ankylosed to correct its ridge defect with orthodontic extrusion.

Patient-reported outcome measures of leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) or hemostatic agent application at palatal donor sites after free gingival graft harvesting: a randomized controlled clinical trial.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the patient's morbidity and postsurgical complications after treatment of palatal donor sites after free gingival graft harvesting using leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) membranes or a hemostatic agent with oxidized and regenerated cellulose.

Method And Materials: Forty-two palatal donor sites after free gingival graft harvesting in 42 patients were randomly assigned to experimental (L-PRF membrane) or control procedure (hemostatic agent). The primary outcome was postoperative pain related to the wound located at the palatal area, and the secondary outcomes were postoperative discomfort, inability to chew, postoperative stress, surgical chair time, thickness of the palatal fibromucosa, and thickness of the free gingival graft.

Objective: To evaluate the 12-months incidence of MRONJ after tooth extractions and possible related risk factors in patients with osteoporosis treated by means of oral bisphosphonates.

Material And Methods: Forty-five records of osteoporotic patients on therapy with oral bisphosphonates and treated with at least one dental extraction at the Department of Oral Surgery of University of Naples Federico II were selected. All patients were treated using a standardized surgical extraction protocol.

Treatment of gingival recessions using coronally advanced flap and connective tissue graft: a long-term retrospective analysis.

Objectives: The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of coronally advanced flap (CAF) in combination with connective tissue graft (CTG) in the treatment of gingival recessions.

Background: We performed a meta-analysis to compare the diagnostic performance of conventional SPECT (C-SPECT) and cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT)-SPECT systems in detecting angiographically proven coronary artery disease (CAD).

Methods: Studies published between January 2000 and February 2018 were identified by database search. We included studies assessing C-SPECT or CZT-SPECT as a diagnostic test to evaluate patients for the presence of CAD, defined as at least 50% diameter stenosis on invasive coronary angiography.

Antidiabetic and Cardioprotective Effects of Pharmacological Inhibition of GRK2 in db/db Mice.

Despite the availability of several therapies for the management of blood glucose in diabetic patients, most of the treatments do not show benefits on diabetic cardiomyopathy, while others even favor the progression of the disease. New pharmacological targets are needed that might help the management of diabetes and its cardiovascular complications at the same time. GRK2 appears a promising target, given its established role in insulin resistance and in systolic heart failure.

A microscopical evaluation of 24 retrieved failed hollow implants.

Twenty-four hollow ITI implants (four screws, and 20 cylinders) were retrieved because of failure, and evaluated in our laboratory, in a eight-year period (1989-1996), to see if a common cause could be observed in this implant design. No selection of these implants was carried out, and they represented the total number of implants of this type received in the above-mentioned time frame. The implants had been inserted by several different clinicians and were received from four universities and a private practice.

Guided tissue regeneration versus coronally repositioned flap in the treatment of recession with double papillae.

Histological evaluation of the peri-implant bone around plasma-sprayed non-submerged titanium implants retrieved from man: a report of two cases.

Two cases of non-submerged implants are reported: one was removed, unloaded, after 1 year, for psychiatric reasons, and the other, after a loading period of 4 years, for a fracture of the implant. The implants and surrounding tissues were processed to obtain thin ground sections. The aim of the present study was to evaluate surface alterations on titanium implant necks subsequent to different prophylaxis procedures. Fifty ITI implants were utilized. Forty implants were treated with 10 different prophylaxis procedures (ultrasonic scaler, plastic tip ultrasonic scaler, stainless steel curette, titanium curette, teflon curette, air powered system, abrasive rubber cups, polishing rubber cup and brush), and 10 implants were left as untreated controls.

We have studied hemoglobin concentration in saliva of anti-HIV positive and anti-HIV negative intravenous drug abusers (IVDA) and normal controls and the relationship between hemoglobin concentration in saliva and number of CD4+ cells and clinical status of AIDS in anti-HIV positive IVDA. 120 anti-HIV positive IVDA, 112 anti-HIV negative IVDA and 116 normal healthy subjects not belonging to any risk group for HIV infection completed the study. Saliva was collected at awakening before brushing teeth and the concentration of hemoglobin was determined.

[The role of LGL cells (NK and K) in periodontal disease].
