This study proposes a new method for the detection of a weak scatterer among strong scatterers using prior-information ultrasound (US) imaging. A perfect application of this approach is in vivo cell detection in the bloodstream, where red blood cells (RBCs) serve as identifiable strong scatterers. In vivo cell detection can help diagnose cancer at its earliest stages, increasing the chances of survival for patients.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there were an increasing prevalence of perinatal psychiatric symptoms, such as perinatal anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorders. This growth could be caused by a range of direct and indirect stress factors related to the virus and changes in health, social and economic organization. In this review, we explore the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on perinatal mental health, and propose a range of hypothesis about their etiological mechanisms.

This study presents applying recurrence quantification analysis (RQA) on EEG recordings and their subbands: delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma for epileptic seizure detection. RQA is adopted since it does not require assumptions about stationarity, length of signal, and noise. The decomposition of the original EEG into its five constituent subbands helps better identification of the dynamical system of EEG signal.

In this paper, distributed electroencephalographic (EEG) sources in the brain have been mapped with the objective of early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). To this end, records from a montage of a high-density EEG from 17 early AD patients and 17 matched healthy control subjects were considered. Subjects were in eyes-closed, resting-state condition.

Background: Coronary computed tomography (CCT) detects coronary obstruction with high sensitivity and might be useful for diagnosis of angina pectoris.

Aim: In this pilot study, we sought to prospectively evaluate the performance of CCT as initial work up and determine the significance of this strategy according to the pretest likelihood of having coronary artery disease (CAD).

Methods: One hundred and eighty patients with chest discomfort and suspected angina were prospectively referred for CCT with a 64-slice CT scan.

We describe the case of a fatal cerebral hemorrhage associated with a severe thrombocytopenia (4.0 x 10(9)/l), occurring only 90 min after starting treatment with abciximab, in a patient undergoing primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) for an acute myocardial infarction. Cathet.

The authors report the case of a pulmonary arteriovenous fistula presenting with dyspnoea and cyanosis in a young adult. The malformation was situated on the proximal pulmonary vessels and was cured by surgical correction. The diagnostic value of the clinical signs and complementary investigations of this rare conditions, often detected during adulthood, is discussed.

The authors report two cases of myocarditis in young individuals in whom clinical and electrocardiographic findings during the acute phase could have led to an erroneous diagnosis of myocardial infarction. The problem in such cases is that of a differential diagnosis with infarction with normal coronary arteries. Few clinical or paraclinical arguments are of diagnostic value, endomyocardial biopsy remaining the reference investigation.
