Purpose: Τo assess the outcome of direct pulp capping in asymptomatic carious primary molars using three pulp capping materials.
Methods: In this prospective clinical trial, carious primary molars free of irreversible pulp inflammation signs and symptoms, with negative pain history and pulp exposure following caries removal were included. Teeth were divided into groups: A: Ca(OH), B: Pure Portland cement, C: Biodentine™.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the oral health status of overweight and obese children compared to normal weight children and to explore the effect of risk indicators, including stress, on the oral health of the children.
Methods: For this cross-sectional study, 7-15-year-old children were enrolled: divided into a group of overweight and obese and a group of normal weight children. Parent-reported questionnaires were used to for data collection demographic data, children's medical and developmental history, brushing frequency and dietary habits.
Aim: To investigate the association between the occurrences of developmental defects of enamel (DDE), in first permanent molars, and bronchodilators and/or corticosteroid intake for asthma-like episodic treatment at preschool age, in 6-12 year old children.
Methods: Children of the case group (n = 70) were followed in the Paediatric Pulmonary Unit and the Unit of Allergology, Asthma and Inflammation at 'Aghia Sofia' Children's Hospital, Athens, Greece and had used asthma drugs during their first 4 years of life. The control group (n = 70) consisted of healthy children who visited the Postgraduate Paediatric Dental Clinic, University of Athens.
Background: Mesial protraction of mandibular posterior teeth requires increased anchorage to avoid undesired tooth movements. Orthodontic mini-implants have become a popular and successful way to increase skeletal anchorage in such cases. However, mini-implants may cause injury to adjacent teeth or anatomical structures and may lead to tissue inflammation.

Methods: A stratified cluster sample of 1209, 1224 and 1257 of five, twelve and fifteen-year-old Greek children were randomly selected according to WHO guidelines for national pathfinder surveys and examined for dental caries, according to the BASCD criteria and standards. d3mft, D3MFT and their components, as well as d3mfs, D3MFS, Care Index (CI) and SiC were recorded and related to the demographic data collected concerning age, gender, counties, urban/rural areas and parents' educational status.
Aim: To investigate oral hygiene and periodontal status of 12- and 15-year old Greek adolescents, in relation to sociodemographic and behavioural parameters.
Methods: A stratified cluster sample of 1,224 12-year old and 1,257 15-year old adolescents of Greek nationality were selected and examined by calibrated examiners. Periodontal and oral hygiene status were assessed using the Community Periodontal Index (CPI) and the simplified Debris Index (DIs) respectively.
Aim: To estimate the frequency in use of oral health services, oral health self-assessment, oral hygiene practices of 12- and 15-year-old Greek children and adolescents, to investigate possible influences of these factors and other socio-demographic parameters on oral health.
Methods: A stratified cluster sample of 1224 12 year old and 1257 15 year old children and adolescents of Greek nationality were selected and examined by calibrated examiners. Clinical examination included recording of caries according to the British association for the study of community dentistry diagnostic criteria, while oral hygiene and periodontal status were assessed by means of the simplified debris and the community periodontal index.

Aim: To provide a review of the existing literature on early childhood caries (ECC) with particular reference on the nomenclature, case definition, epidemiology, etiology and risk assessment.
Methods: An electronic search was used to identify and critically review papers that have been published and are pertinent to the above issues, evaluate and compile the reported evidence.
Results: The term ECC has been adopted to more accurately describe dental caries that affects primary dentitions, replacing previously used terminology that associated the disease with the nursing habit.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of sealant treatment in preventing dental restorations due to caries in a practice-based research network in Finland, Sweden, and Greece.
Material And Methods: Times of tooth emergence, sealing treatment, and dental caries were compiled from the dental charts of 4735 subjects born in 1970-72 in Finland and in 1980-82 in Finland, Sweden, and Greece. Survival time between tooth emergence and placement of first restoration was measured and estimated using survival analysis methodology.

Garre's osteomyelitis is a type of chronic osteomyelitis that primarily affects children and adolescents. Although the disease is well described in the dental literature and is usually associated with an odontogenic infection resulting from caries, a number of other causative factors have been occasionally reported, such as a dental extraction or a mild periodontitis. There have also been cases of unknown aetiology.

It was also intended to evaluate what dentists and pediatricians tell parents when they examine children with nursing caries.
Methods: 260 children, ages 3-5 (130 with nursing caries, NC group, and 130 without, NNC group) participated in the study.

Although a number of investigators have studied the prevalence and etiology of non-nutritive sucking habits in children, no consensus exists among dental and medical experts in respect to the contributing factors and preventing behaviors. Furthermore, changes in the rearing practices of children make management of such habits even more complicated. The purpose of the present study was to investigate finger and pacifier sucking habits among pre-school children, and its possible relationship to nursing behavior.

The purpose of our investigation was to determine the effectiveness of mandibular infiltration compared with mandibular block in treating primary molars in children, and to relate the effectiveness to age and type of treatment performed. The study population consisted of 89 cooperative children, 3 to 9 years old, requiring the same type of treatment on contralateral mandibular molars.

Various treatment approaches have been suggested, so far, regarding management of intrusive luxation. Techniques aiming to reposition the intruded tooth include observation for spontaneous reeruption, surgical as well as orthodontic repositioning.

Despite the marked craniofacial characteristics and oral findings, a relative lack of reports in the dental literature has been noted. In this article, a review of the literature regarding the general clinical features and differential diagnosis is presented.

The need for dental materials which bond to all hard tissues of the tooth is an obvious one. The technique of enamel acid etching has made adhesion to enamel possible. In addition, extensive research has allowed the development of dentine-bonding agents, materials that are claimed to bond to dentine.

Difficulty in bonding hypomineralized enamel can significantly limit the restorative and orthodontic treatment options for AI patients. In this report, we document a novel approach to bonding AI enamel by pretreating the tooth surface with 5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), resulting in improved bonding of an orthodontic bracket to a previously impacted maxillary canine.

There are a number of studies in the literature, that associate nasopharyngeal airway obstruction, as a result of adenoid enlargement, to the development of skeletal and dental abnormalities. However, the etiologic role of hypertrophied adenoids and tonsils in developing an aberrant dentofacial growth is not clear, yet. The present investigation attempted to study the incidence of maxillary posterior crossbite and oral habits, in a sample of 120 children, that displayed hypertrophied adenoids with or without enlarged tonsils, and underwent adenoidectomy.

However, the mode of transmission of mechanical stimuli into biological signals and the effect of load at the cellular level are still not clear. An in vitro system, a Flexercell Strain Unit, was used to apply cyclic load to osteoblast-like cells in culture.

The incidence of posterior crossbite in the primary dentition has been reported as 7-17%. The crossbite usually results from bilateral maxillary constriction and is commonly associated with an occlusion guided lateral deviation of the mandible upon closing. Correction of the functional posterior crossbite in the primary dentition is indicated to establish a stable occlusion and avoid possible deleterious effects on the developing temporomandibular joint.
