There is evidence that Murciano Granadina (MG), the most important caprine dairy breed in Spain, has been introgressed by African goats, but the precise geographic origin of such introgression has not been identified yet. Moreover, an accurate estimate of the magnitude of this African introgression is lacking, since current estimates are based on small numbers of sampled individuals. The aim of our work was to tackle these two issues by genotyping 500 MG goats with the Goat SNP50 BeadChip and comparing their genotypes with those of reference populations from Spain (Bermeya), France (Saanen), Morocco (Barcha, Draa, Ghazalia, Noire de Atlas, Nord, Moroccan), Egypt (Barki, Oasis, Saidi), Algeria (Arabia, Makatia, M'Zabite, Kabyle), Tunisia (Tunisian native breeds) and Sudan (Desert, Nilotic, Taggar).

This dispersal is expected to generate a gradient of declining genetic diversity with increasing distance from the areas of early livestock management. Previous studies have reported the existence of such genetic cline in European goat populations, but they were based on a limited number of microsatellite markers.

Minerals are present in milk in soluble form in the aqueous phase and in colloidal form associated with the macronutrients of the milk. These 2 forms affect the nutritional functions of the minerals and their contribution to the technological properties of milk during cheese making.

To genotype the casein genes, we chose an SNP panel including 44 SNPs mapping to the four casein genes , , and . Genotyping (made by KASP™ genotyping assay, based on competitive allele-specific PCR) revealed the high variability of the Sarda goat, and haplotype analysis revealed linkage disequilibrium (LD) between and genes, in addition to two LD blocks within the and two LD blocks within the gene, in bucks and does.

The most abundant component of LLEO was limonene (260.

For each of 121 ewes from 4 farms, a laboratory model cheese was produced, and 3 actual cheese yield traits (fresh cheese, cheese solids, and cheese water) and 4 milk nutrient recovery traits (fat, protein, total solids, and energy) in the curd were measured. Calibration equations were developed using a Bayesian approach with 2 different scenarios: (1) a random cross-validation (80% calibration; 20% validation set), and (2) a leave-one-out validation (3 farms used as calibration, and the remaining one as validation set) to assess the accuracy of prediction of samples from external farms, not included in calibration set.

The present study applied a methodological framework that combined invasive Species Distribution Models, based on propagule pressure, abiotic and biotic factors for 14 invasive alien plants of Union concern in Italy, with the local interpretable model-agnostic explanation analysis aiming to map, evaluate and analyse the risk of plant invasions across the country, inside and outside the network of protected areas. Using a hierarchical invasive Species Distribution Model, we explored the combined effect of propagule pressure, abiotic and biotic factors on shaping invasive alien plant occurrence across three biogeographic regions (Alpine, Continental, and Mediterranean) and realms (terrestrial and aquatic) in Italy.

The objective of this study was to characterize the major sources of variation in the absorbance of the infrared spectrum in caprine milk samples. A total of 657 goats belonging to 6 breeds and reared on 20 farms under traditional and modern dairy systems were milk-sampled once.

Association between the polymorphic SNPs and morphometric traits was performed on a population of 263 Tunisian goats. The SNPs analyzed were all polymorphic (except one), and the three genes had different haplotype structures.

Calibration equations were developed using a Bayesian approach with three different scenarios: i) a random cross-validation (CV) [80% calibration (CAL); 20% validation (VAL) set], ii) a stratified CV [(SCV), 13 farms used as CAL, and the remaining one as VAL set], and iii) a SCV where 20% of the goats randomly selected from the VAL farm were included in the CAL set (SCV). The best prediction performance was obtained for cheese yield solids, justifying for its practical application at population level.

Here we examined the effects of optogenetic activation or inhibition of the glutamatergic ventral subiculum (vSub) to NAc pathway on motivation to work for food rewards and locomotor behavior. Using a novel probe that combines optical stimulation with microdialysis, we show that channelrhodopsin2 (ChR2)-mediated activation of these glutamatergic afferents increased DA efflux in the NAc.

Although many scientific papers on this topic have been published, few studies have been carried out on bulk goat milk samples. The aim of the present study was to investigate in the field the effects of farming system, breed type, individual flock, and stage of production on the composition, coagulation properties (MCP), curd firming over time parameters (CF), predicted cheese yield (CY%), and nutrient recovery traits (REC) of 432 bulk milk samples from 161 commercial goat farms in Sardinia, Italy.

In particular, we carried out a retrospective analysis including 100 patients with locally advanced rectal adenocarcinoma who received C-RT and then radical surgery in three different oncological institutions between January 2013 and December 2019. Our experimental design was focused on the evaluation of the gross tumor volume (GTV) at baseline and after C-RT by means of MRI, which was contoured on T2, DWI, and ADC sequences.

The specific aims were to assess and quantify (1) the contribution of major milk components (fat, protein, and casein) and udder health indicators (lactose, somatic cell count, pH, and bacterial count) on %CY traits (fresh curd, milk solids, and water retained in the curd); (2) the cheese-making method; and (3) goat breed effects on prediction accuracy of the %CY formulas. The %CY traits were analyzed in duplicate from 600 goats, using an individual laboratory cheese-making procedure (9-MilCA method; 9 mL of milk per observation) for a total of 1,200 observations.

The procedure in question serves to depict 3D incompressible flow fields by using 2D measurements of it and computing the third velocity component by means of the continuity equation. A quasi-3D test case of an incompressible flow has been inspected in the wake of a NACA 0012 airfoil immersed in a forced flow of water running in a rectangular open channel.
