Through collaboration with international experts, our institution established a highly active and successful hematopoietic stem cell transplant program, providing access to this potentially curative treatment modality for patients with a variety of benign and malignant hematological diseases. The initial development of an autologous stem cell transplant program provided our institution with the infrastructure, equipment, and expertise needed for the subsequent development of an allogeneic stem cell transplant program. Key transplant staff received training from international transplant experts at the NHLBI/NIH, the Mayo Clinic, the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Nagoya Japan, providing them with the expertise to conduct a variety of different transplant approaches, including PBSC transplants from HLA-matched relatives, unrelated cord blood transplants, haploidentical transplants, and CD34 selected stem cell transplants.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the change of morphology and hemodynamics in a relatively large number of patients with atrial septal defect (ASD) and provide the initial result in Vietnamese patients.

Patients And Methods: This longitudinal, prospective case-control study was done at the Vietnam National Heart Institute from January 2012 to December 2017. The participants were divided into two groups: the ASD group, which included patients with ASDs, and the control group, which included healthy individuals or individuals without cardiac-related disorders.

Assuring availability of services for patients with lymphedema is required for countries to be validated as having achieved elimination of lymphatic filariasis (LF). A direct inspection protocol (DIP) tool, designed to measure the readiness to provide quality lymphedema management services, has recently been developed. The DIP tool includes 14 indicators across six quality themes: trained staff, case management and education materials, water infrastructure, medicines and commodities, patient tracking system, and staff knowledge.

Changes in physicochemical and digestible characteristics of starches isolated from untreated and heat-moisture treated unpolished rice grains were investigated in this study. Heat-moisture treatment (HMT) at moisture content of 20%, 25% or 30% and heating temperature of 100 °C or 120 °C were applied for treating unpolished rice grains. The results indicated that granular morphology and crystalline structure of starches remained almost unchanged.

By favoring the L-peak emission over the bremsstrahlung part, direct quasi-monochromatic soft x-ray emission has been obtained with a field emission (FE) x-ray source. The electron impact x-ray setup uses an arrayed cathode of carbon nanopearl FE tips as a stable cold electron source within a vacuum of 10(-6)-10(-7) Torr. The high brightness of the FE e-beam coupled with the array structure of the cold cathode allows a smoother control of the x-ray emission intensity.

We observed 18 groups of golden-cheeked gibbons (Nomascus gabriellae) in the secondary lowland forest in Cat Tien National Park from January 2004 to December 2005 to obtain information about the social organization of this little-studied species, in an area where the population is recovering through increased protection and forest regeneration. DNA from faecal samples of 10 infants and juveniles identified 1 case of extrapair paternity. DNA from faecal samples of 18 adults from three communities revealed the majority of adults sampled of both sexes to be related to adults in neighbouring territories.

We show here that field emission (FE) can be used to directly observe the vibration resonances nu(R) of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and that the tension created by the applied field allows the tuning of these resonances by up to a factor of 10. The resonances are observable by the changes they create in the FE pattern or the emitted FE current. The tuning is shown to be linear in voltage and to follow from the basic physics of stretched strings.

Field emission (FE) electron spectroscopy from an individual multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) is used to measure quantitatively stable temperatures at the apex, T(A), of up to 2000 K induced by FE currents approximately 1 microA. The high T(A) is due to Joule heating along the length of the MWNT. These measurements also give directly the resistance of the individual MWNT which is shown to decrease with temperature, and explain the phenomenon of FE-induced light emission which was observed simultaneously.

A new mechanism for electron emission from planar cathodes is described. The theoretical analysis shows that, with an ultrathin wide band-gap semiconductor layer (UTSC) on a metal, the surface barrier is lowered to approximately 0.1 eV due to the creation of a space charge induced by the electrons injected from the metal.
