The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of the influence of the medical drug tivortin®aspartate (drinking solution of L-arginine aspartate) on the psychophysiological characteristics and the severity of psychophysiological stress in qualified athletes at the stage of direct preparation for the competition. Methodologically, the studies, which are randomized, blind, placebo-controlled, during the course (14 days) of drug usage in a daily dose of 40 ml were carried out in compliance with bioethical principles. The athletes in the control subgroups received placebo (3% glucose solution) in identical dosage, multiplicity and duration of usage.

Preoperatively and postoperatively the indirect laryngoscopy, videolaryngoscopy, the voice spectral analysis (main frequency, intensity and the rate harmonics-noise RHN, maximal period of phonation--MPP) were accomplished, subjective selfestimation by a patient of the voice quality (VHI-30) was done.

The 2',5'-OA-synthetase activity was decreased by 75% after daily ethanol administration for 14 days. The changes were less pronounced at the late terms of the experiment.

We investigated the changes in key parameters of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, which correspond to the clinical picture that accompanies the development of prediabetic condition on the background of chronic alcohol intoxication. From the analysis of glycemic curves obtained during the insulin-glucose test, a speed of glucose uptake by peripheral tissues increased at the 1st day (1.5 fold) and the third day (1.

During the critical periods of maturation, these influences induce changes in the organism that relate to ontogenetic plasticity and lead to permanent changes in structure and function of different organ systems of the organism. It is suggested that the main molecular mechanisms of so-called "ontogenetic programming" are based on changes that occur on the epigenetic level, including changes in the genetic expression not connected with modifications of DNA structure.

Current recommendations for limiting exposure to ionizing radiation are based on the linear-no-threshold (LNT) model for radiation carcinogenesis under which every dose, no matter how low, carries with it some cancer risk. In this review, epidemiological evidences are discussed that the LNT hypothesis is incorrect at low doses. A large set of data was accumulated that showed that cancer risk after ordinarily encountered radiation exposure (natural background radiation, medical X-rays, etc.

In the present study, the analysis of type 2 diabetes (T2D) prevalence in Ukraine residents born before, during, and after the famine 1932-1933 was performed. It has been found that T2D prevalence is increased in the people exposed to the peak of the famine during prenatal development compared with those not exposed to famine.

The allele frequency distribution of 10 STRs included in the SGMplus kit was analyzed among 2176 unrelated individuals from 6 regional Polish populations and among 4321 individuals from Germany (three samples), Austria, The Netherlands, Sweden, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belarus, Ukraine and the Russian Federation (six samples). The statistical approach consisted of AMOVA, calculation of pairwise Rst values and analysis by multidimensional scaling.

Flies were reared to adulthood and maintained as adults under both 24-h (light/dark 12:12 h) and 48-h (light/dark 24:24 h) cycles. The flies reared during pre-adult stages at the 48-h light/dark cycle had significantly prolonged developmental time compared to those in flies reared at normal 24-h cycle.

This finding indicates that environmental factors operating during pre- and/or postnatal development could be aetiologically important. We examined whether the pattern of month of birth for type 1 diabetes patients in Ukraine differs from that for total live births.

It was shown in a number of epidemiological studies of seasonality of birth in children with type 1 diabetes that the autoimmune process began during fetal and postnatal development. No such studies were carried out in the former Soviet Union countries.

October 2003
It is supposed that longevity might be programmed by early life exposures. We had carried out demographic and experimental researches for the examination of the possibility of longevity programming. In demographic study, the recorded deaths in Kiev (Ukraine) between 1990 and 2000 (51,503 men and 50,131 women) were used.

The relationship between age at death and month of birth showed a very similar pattern for both men and women. Mean values for the age at death were lowest for subjects born in April-July, and highest for individuals born at the beginning and end of the year.

An accelerated rate of aging was found in 81% of men and in 77% of women in comparison with a control random population sample of Kiev. Persons younger than 45 years appeared to be more vulnerable to radiation.

The five persons had positive skin prick tests to the plants as is and positive histamine-release tests, and in three of them specific IgE to the cacti could be demonstrated by Maxisorp RAST and immunoblotting. Four of the patients were atopic, and the fifth had a positive skin prick test to cat dander, indicating latent atopy.
