APPROACHES TO PHARMACOLOGICAL CORRECTION OF PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGICAL STRESS IN ATHLETES.

The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of the influence of the medical drug tivortin®aspartate (drinking solution of L-arginine aspartate) on the psychophysiological characteristics and the severity of psychophysiological stress in qualified athletes at the stage of direct preparation for the competition. Methodologically, the studies, which are randomized, blind, placebo-controlled, during the course (14 days) of drug usage in a daily dose of 40 ml were carried out in compliance with bioethical principles. The athletes in the control subgroups received placebo (3% glucose solution) in identical dosage, multiplicity and duration of usage.

[The change of objective parameters of voice after laryngeal reinnervation].

[Epigenetic epidemiology of age-related diseases].

Many studies have shown that our organism is mostly sensitive to different influences in pre- and postnatal periods of ontogenesis. During the critical periods of maturation, these influences induce changes in the organism that relate to ontogenetic plasticity and lead to permanent changes in structure and function of different organ systems of the organism. It is suggested that the main molecular mechanisms of so-called "ontogenetic programming" are based on changes that occur on the epigenetic level, including changes in the genetic expression not connected with modifications of DNA structure.

[Cancer incidence and mortality after low-dose radiation exposure: epidemiological aspects].

Current recommendations for limiting exposure to ionizing radiation are based on the linear-no-threshold (LNT) model for radiation carcinogenesis under which every dose, no matter how low, carries with it some cancer risk. In this review, epidemiological evidences are discussed that the LNT hypothesis is incorrect at low doses. It has been shown in a number of studies that the early-life exposition to famine can have long-term consequences for human health. In the present study, the analysis of type 2 diabetes (T2D) prevalence in Ukraine residents born before, during, and after the famine 1932-1933 was performed. It has been found that T2D prevalence is increased in the people exposed to the peak of the famine during prenatal development compared with those not exposed to famine.

Analysis of forensically used autosomal short tandem repeat markers in Polish and neighboring populations.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the homogeneity of Polish populations with respect to STRs chosen as core markers of the Polish Forensic National DNA Intelligence Database, and to provide reference allele frequencies and to explore the genetic interrelationship between Poland and neighboring countries. The allele frequency distribution of 10 STRs included in the SGMplus kit was analyzed among 2176 unrelated individuals from 6 regional Polish populations and among 4321 individuals from Germany (three samples), Austria, The Netherlands, Sweden, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belarus, Ukraine and the Russian Federation (six samples). The statistical approach consisted of AMOVA, calculation of pairwise Rst values and analysis by multidimensional scaling.

Life extension in Drosophila maintained under lengthened light/dark regime.

In the present study, we investigated whether the length of light/dark cycle could influence the pre-adult developmental time and adult life span in Drosophila melanogaster. Flies were reared to adulthood and maintained as adults under both 24-h (light/dark 12:12 h) and 48-h (light/dark 24:24 h) cycles. The flies reared during pre-adult stages at the 48-h light/dark cycle had significantly prolonged developmental time compared to those in flies reared at normal 24-h cycle.

Seasonality of birth in children and young adults (0-29 years) with type 1 diabetes in Ukraine.

Aims/hypothesis: Numerous epidemiological studies have shown differences in seasonality of birth patterns between the general population and the group who develop type 1 diabetes mellitus. This finding indicates that environmental factors operating during pre- and/or postnatal development could be aetiologically important. The rate of aging was studied in 306 persons working at Chernobyl Atomic Power Station after the accident by means of integral and partial biological age assessment. An accelerated rate of aging was found in 81% of men and in 77% of women in comparison with a control random population sample of Kiev. Occupational type I allergy to Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera).

The study aimed to determine whether occupational contact urticaria and symptoms of mucous membranes, reported by five workers in a cactus nursery, were due to IgE-mediated allergy to Schlumbergera cacti. The five persons had positive skin prick tests to the plants as is and positive histamine-release tests, and in three of them specific IgE to the cacti could be demonstrated by Maxisorp RAST and immunoblotting.
