Avulsion fractures of the anterior inferior iliac spine rarely occur in adolescent athletes during rectus femoris contractions or eccentric muscle lengthening while the growth plate is still open. Currently, there are no official guidelines in the literature on the treatment indications of this type of fracture or the type of surgical technique to be used. Nowadays, young and athletic patients desire a quick return to their previous activities, which makes surgical treatment a reasonable choice.

Purpose: The anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) is a frequent site of avulsion fracture in the pelvis, and these lesions could be observed mainly in teenage athletes. The present study aimed to re-evaluate the appropriate acute surgical treatment of AIIS avulsion fractures considering the three-dimensional anatomy of the supracetabular region.

Methods: This study evaluated current evidence of AIIS avulsion fracture treatments and outcomes.

Little is still known about the environmental impacts of exogenous enzyme supplementation in pig and poultry feeding programs. Thus, this study aimed to assess the potential environmental impacts of producing feeds for pigs and broilers by simulating the effects of β-mannanase ™ supplementation through energy savings during diet formulation. Life-cycle assessment standards were applied to simulate a cradle-to-feed mill gate scope.

Purpose: Epidemiological and clinical parameters according to the Parker-Palmer Index (PPI) have not been specifically studied as predictors of re-fracture time in patients over 65 years old with contralateral hip fracture. The main purpose of this study was to assess whether these parameters could represent a prognostic factor in this population.

Methods: This retrospective study included all consecutive patients older than 65 years that suffered from a proximal femoral fracture, 31 according to Association for Osteosynthesis/Orthopaedic Trauma Association classification, treated at our unit between Feb 1st 2019 and Feb 1st 2020.

Oncoplastic surgery is a well-acknowledged technique that combines conserving treatment in breast cancer with plastic surgery reconstruction. The aim of our analysis is to evaluate the safety of this surgical procedure in the setting of invasive primary breast cancer, and then compare breast oncoplastic surgery with the Veronesi quadrantectomy. We have analyzed 1541 patients who underwent breast surgery for primary breast tumor between October 2004 and May 2018 at Sant'Andrea University Hospital in Rome: 880 women experienced the breast oncoplastic approach, while 660 patients received conservative surgery alone.

Intralesional steroid injection is a common and highly effective treatment procedure, which can be successfully used for several dermatologic, rheumatologic, and orthopedic disorders. However, it may be associated with various local side effects, such as pain, granulomatous reaction, allergic reactions, hypo or hyperpigmentation and, uncommonly, skin atrophy. A peculiar and rare side effect of steroid injection is linear hypopigmentation and atrophy, which is probably an expression of lymphatic spread of corticosteroid crystals.

In experiments designed to determine the consequence of cholesterol depletion on relaxation signaling in the uterus, we treated isolated strips of guinea pig myometrium in organ baths with beta-methyl cyclodextrin (beta-MeCD) to remove cholesterol expecting suppression of spontaneous activity and uncoupling of agonist specific relaxation as we have shown in vascular muscle (Circulation Research 91:292-299, 2002). Treatment of myometrium with 15 mM beta-MeCD for 15 min led to enhancement of spontaneous activity that was further increased following a second beta-MeCD treatment. beta-MeCD treated tissues developed increased force on top of that already present basally when stimulated by OT, but reached the same maximum as control tissues.

In this study, follow-up data was obtained in 90 of 117 consecutive meniscal repairs. In Group I, there were 68 meniscal repairs in conjunction with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and in Group II, 22 isolated repairs in anterior cruciate ligament stable knees. Meniscal healing was assessed using the criteria established by Henning, by either arthroscopy or arthrography, at a mean of 7 months for isolated repairs and a mean of 10 months for repairs done in conjunction with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

There are an estimated 8 to 10 million people worldwide infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The true extent of infection in the population is unknown, and many are unaware of their HIV status. Arthroscopic and arthroscopically assisted surgery is less invasive and bloody than other orthopaedic procedures, and seemingly less hazardous to surgeons.

This retrospective study included 55 patients who had prior anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction; 30 made up the experimental group who had arthroscopic debridement of impinging soft tissue and 25, who did not have a second-look arthroscopy, were used as controls. Impinging tissue was not necessarily the primary reason for arthroscopy in the experimental group. Only nine patients (30%) were debrided solely because of anterior symptoms suggestive of soft tissue impingement; 16 (53%) underwent arthroscopy primarily to assess meniscal repairs; five (17%) were done in conjunction with hardware removal.

Arthroscopic debridement was carried out in 49 knees of 44 patients. These patients, who had a primary diagnosis of arthritis, were older than 50 years of age. Two-thirds had roentgenographic evidence of severe arthritis.
