Tunable Quantum Spin Liquidity in the 1/6th-Filled Breathing Kagome Lattice.

We present measurements on a series of materials, Li_{2}In_{1-x}Sc_{x}Mo_{3}O_{8}, that can be described as a 1/6th-filled breathing kagome lattice. Substituting Sc for In generates chemical pressure which alters the breathing parameter nonmonotonically. Muon spin rotation experiments show that this chemical pressure tunes the system from antiferromagnetic long range order to a quantum spin liquid phase.

Repair of maxillary cystic bone defects with mesenchymal stem cells seeded on a cross-linked serum scaffold.

Unlabelled: Tissue engineering combining cross-linked serum scaffolds with bone-derived mesenchymal stem cells has displayed excellent results for repair of maxillofacial bone defects in animal models, but it had not been tested in humans yet. We present here a pilot clinical trial using autologous bone-derived mesenchymal stem cells (H-MSV) grown in a serum cross-linked scaffold (BioMax) for treatment of maxillary cysts in 9 patients. Cells obtained from alveolar bone were seeded in the BioMax scaffold prepared from autologous serum, expanded under GMP conditions, and subjected to osteogenic differentiation for 3-4 weeks before application.

Relationship between alexithymia and dependent personality disorder: a dimensional analysis.

The present study had two aims and used two different samples. The first aim was to determine if alexithymia and dependent personality disorder (DPD) are distinct or overlapping constructs. The second aim was to determine the specificity and the stability of the relationship between alexithymia and DPD.

Bing-Neel syndrome (BNS), a rare neurological syndrome associated with Waldenström macroglobulinaemia (WM), is a direct involvement of the central nervous system by lymphoplasmacytoid cells characterized with an adverse prognostic. The MYD88 L265P mutation has been identified in the vast majority of patients with WM. The diagnosis of BNS is often challenging because of the variety of clinical presentations associated with difficult histological techniques.

Relationship between anticipatory, consummatory anhedonia and disorganization in schizotypy.

Background: The disorganized and negative dimensions of schizotypy are characterized by cognitive disorganization and anhedonia, respectively. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationships between these two dimensions of schizotypy by taking into account ambivalence and the distinction between consummatory and anticipatory anhedonia.

Methods: Dimensional analysis and categorical analysis were performed on two different samples (N = 400 and 399) of university students.

Risk factors for addictive disorders: a discriminant analysis on 374 addicted and 513 nonpsychiatric participants.

Many common risk factors have been described in addictive disorders. Little is known about factors' respective contributions to discrimination of addicted and nonaddicted participants. Two large samples were compared including 513 nonpsychiatric participants and 374 addicted participants meeting the DSM-IV criteria for eating disorders, alcohol, or substance dependence.

Home and leisure injuries among the French electricity and gas company active employees: circumstances and short-term consequences.

Objective: To characterize home and leisure injuries and their immediate consequences among adults aged 20-60 years and to look for homogeneous profiles of injury circumstances to assess the possibility of setting up prevention programs.

Design: Cross-sectional survey by questionnaire completed on the occasion of a medical visit after a first episode of absence for home or leisure injury between 1 January and 31 December 1997 among Electricité de France Gaz de France (EDF GDF) workforce of three geographical areas (47,681 employees). [Psychometric properties of the French versions of the Cognitive Slippage Scale and Schizotypal Ambivalence Scale in 340 subjects].

Aims: The aim of this article is firstly to present the French translations of the Cognitive Slippage (Miers and Raulin, 1987) and the Schizotypal Ambivalence Scales (Raulin, 1986), and secondly to determine their psychometric properties in different samples of non-clinical and clinical subjects.

Background: Chapman et al. have developed trait-oriented scales based on Meehl's manual of schizotypy, such as the Physical and Social Anhedonia Scales, the Perceptual Aberration Scale, the Magical Ideation Scale, the Impulsive Nonconformity Scale, the Cognitive Slippage Scale (CSS), and the Schizotypal Ambivalence Scale (SAS).

Characterization of exposure to extremely low frequency magnetic fields using multidimensional analysis techniques.

Our lack of knowledge about the biological mechanisms of 50 Hz magnetic fields makes it hard to improve exposure assessment. To provide better information about these exposure measures, we use multidimensional analysis techniques to examine the relations between different exposure metrics for a group of subjects. We used a combination of a two stage Principal Component Analysis (PCA) followed by an ascending hierarchical classification (AHC) to identify a set of measures that would capture the characteristics of the total exposure.

Legislative recognition in France of psychological harassment at work.

The recent French Law on Social Modernisation of 17 January 2002 introduced into the French Labour Code and into the French Criminal Code, the concept of "moral" harassment. The definition of psychological harassment under this law adopts quite a broad conception of the notion of psychological harassment. Criterion validity of the interpersonal dependency inventory: a preliminary study on 621 addictive subjects.

The interpersonal dependency inventory comprised three subscales called Emotional reliance of another person (ER), lack of social self confidence (LSS) and Assertion of autonomy (AUT). Several formula have been developed for deriving whole-scale scores. The aim of the study on 621 addictive subjects was to determine the best formula using the DSM-IV dependent personality disorder as gold standard.

Comorbidity of dependent personality disorder and separation anxiety disorder in addictive disorders and in healthy subjects.

The aim of the study was to determine the comorbidity of dependent personality disorder (DPD) and separation anxiety disorder (SAD) in large nonclinical and clinical samples. Using a cross-sectional method, the relationship between these disorders was studied in 784 healthy subjects and in 708 subjects presenting with various addictive behaviors. DPD was significantly associated with SAD in healthy subjects, alcoholics, drug abusers and anorectic and bulimic patients.

Factorial structure of the Sensation-Seeking Scale-Form V: confirmatory factorial analyses in nonclinical and clinical samples.

Objective: The factor structure of the Sensation-Seeking Scale (SSS)-Form V was studied in 2 large French samples, using confirmatory factorial analyses (CFA) to test the 4-dimensional model of sensation seeking postulated by Zuckerman.

Method: The study included 769 healthy subjects and 659 patients who met the DSM-IV criteria for substance use disorders or eating disorders and completed the SSS. The correlation matrices for each of the samples were analyzed using CFA.

In a sample of 264 university students, anhedonia scores were not associated with scores for severity of fatigue.

Fragrance and contact allergens in vitro modulate the HLA-DR and E-cadherin expression on human epidermal Langerhans cells.

Background: Epidermal Langerhans cells (LCs) play a critical role in the induction of contact hypersensitivity. The LCs leave the skin, move to the regional lymph nodes and present the allergens embedded in the HLA-DR molecule to naive T-lymphocytes. To allow LC emigration from the epidermis, E-cadherin must be downregulated.
