The mild autosomal recessive limb-girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMD) are a heterogeneous group of muscle diseases. The first gene to be mapped and associated with this phenotype was a locus on 15q based on linkage analysis in families from a French geographic isolate. These results have been confirmed in other populations, but it was shown that there is genetic heterogeneity for this form of LGMD.

The prevalence of risk factors for coronary atherosclerosis were studied in two population samples, Northeast (Posadas, n = 498) and South (Viedma, C. Rivadavia and Cipolletti, n = 652) of 20 years and older, males and females. The diet in the Northeast (n = 102) contained more monounsaturated acids and polyunsaturated acids than the one in the South (n = 62), 9.

A sample of the rural population of Comi-Co (N = 92), which included descendants of Mapuche indians, was compared with a sample of the urban population of Viedma (N = 94). Sheep, goat and horse meat from the rural district was analyzed.

Of the 371 sampled inhabitants, 30 (8%) were seropositive, most of whom were asymptomatic. After niclosamide therapy, four Taenia species worms were identified in the seropositive group, compared with one in the control group (p = 0.

In 330 males and 322 females of Viedma and Cipolletti (Province of Rio Negro), and Comodoro Rivadavia (Province of Chubut), we determined total cholesterol (CT), triglycerides (TG), HDL cholesterol (CHDL), LDL cholesterol (CLDL), uric acid (AcU), systolic pressure (PS), diastolic pressure (PD), cigarette smokers (Cig), and body mass index (BMI). Laboratories were coordinated as to methodology and quality control.

The therapeutic efficacy of a Campylobacter fetus subsp venerealis bacterin was determined in experimentally infected bulls. Ten of twelve 5-year-old Angus bulls became infected after being infused intrapreputially with C fetus subsp venerealis. Of the 10 bulls, 6 were vaccinated with 5 ml of C fetus subsp venerealis vaccine on 2 occasions 4 weeks apart.

Extenders were conventional egg yolk citrate, complete egg yolk Tes-Tris, and complete egg yolk Tris. Raw semen was treated with 2000 micrograms streptomycin sulfate and 1000 units of polymyxin B sulfate per milliliter.

All the observations of metastasis in the epididymis of cancer of the prostate gland constitute unexpected findings during the course of surgical castration operations. The morphology is always the same, small indurated nodules respecting the rest of the epididymis.
