Ex vivo skin diffusion and decontamination studies of titanium dioxide nanoparticles.

This study aims to adapt an experimental model based on Franz diffusion cells and porcine skin explants to characterize the diffusion of TiO NPs and to compare the efficacy of different cleansing products, soapy water and a calixarene cleansing nanoemulsion compared with pure water, as a function of the time of treatment. While TiO NPs tend to form agglomerates in aqueous solutions, a diffusion through healthy skin was confirmed as particles were detected in the receptor fluid of Franz cells using sp-ICP-MS. In the absence of treatment, SIMS images showed the accumulation of TiO agglomerates in the stratum corneum, the epidermis, the dermis, and around hair follicles.

Real-life practice study of the clinical outcome and cost-effectiveness of photodynamic therapy using methyl aminolevulinate (MAL-PDT) in the management of actinic keratosis and basal cell carcinoma.

Clinical trials have shown that photodynamic therapy using methyl aminolevulinate (MAL-PDT) is an effective treatment for actinic keratosis (AK), and nodular and superficial basal cell carcinoma (nBCC and sBCC) unsuitable for other available therapies. Economic evaluation models have shown that it is a cost effective intervention as well. The objectives of this prospective, observational, one arm study were (i) to verify in a real-life practice study the results obtained in previous clinical trials with MAL-PDT in the treatment of AK, nBCC and sBCC; (ii) to calculate the real-life cost of treatment and validate predictions from an economic evaluation model.

Arthritis and hidradenitis suppurativa diagnosed in a 48-year-old man.

We report the case of a 48-year-old man who presented with an erosive, seronegative, HLA-B27-negative, peripheral polyarthritis, associated with hidradenitis suppurativa of axillae and buttocks. The pertinent literature is reviewed. This paper is the second devoted to this topic in a radiological journal and the first to document erosion of the posterior aspect of the calcaneus.

Histopathological discriminant criteria between lichenoid drug eruption and idiopathic lichen planus: retrospective study on selected samples.

The lesions observed in 15 idiopathic lichen planus (ILP) skin biopsies were compared with those occurring in 15 clinically relevant lichenoid drug eruptions (LDE). Various histopathological features were taken into account. Statistical analysis of results showed that none of these can be considered as a significant criterium allowing a pathognomonic differential diagnosis between ILP and LDE.
