Tubular biomarkers and histology in lupus nephritis.

Introduction: The relevance of tubulo-interstitial involvement for kidney prognosis has recently been emphasized, but validated biomarkers for predicting histology are still lacking. The aim of our study was to evaluate different serum and urinary markers of tubular damage in patients with lupus nephritis (LN) and to correlate them with kidney histopathology.

Methods: A single-center retrospective study was conducted from January 2016 to December 2021.

The construction of models for the velocity of settling allows the estimation of the flux of solids throughout time, which can, in turn, be used to find the area of the units required to achieve a given solid concentration in the clarified stream.

Effect of the drying conditions on the microstructure of silica based xerogels and aerogels.

Nanostructured silica based xerogels and aerogels are prepared by sol-gel technology, using methyltrimethoxysilane as precursor. The influence of the drying method and conditions on the microstructure of the obtained materials is investigated, since the drying stage has a critical influence on their porosity. Two types of drying methods were used: atmospheric pressure drying (evaporative), to produce xerogels, and supercritical fluids drying, to obtain aerogels.
