Applications such as disaster management enormously benefit from rapid availability of satellite observations. Traditionally, data analysis is performed on the ground after being transferred-downlinked-to a ground station. Constraints on the downlink capabilities, both in terms of data volume and timing, therefore heavily affect the response delay of any downstream application.

Brain trimming through defined neuroanatomical landmarks is recommended to obtain consistent sections in rat toxicity studies. In this article, we describe a matrix-guided trimming protocol that uses channels to reproduce coronal levels of anatomical landmarks. Both setup phase and validation study were performed on Han Wistar male rats (Crl:WI(Han)), 10-week-old, with bodyweight of 298 ± 29 (SD) g, using a matrix (ASI-Instruments(®), Houston, TX) fitted for brains of rats with 200 to 400 g bodyweight.

Region-specific decreases of neurofilament proteins have been described in the ventral tegmental area of rats chronically treated with either morphine or cocaine. The aim of the present study was to assess if the levels of neurofilament proteins are changed in the ventral tegmental area by chronic treatment with nicotine. Immunoreactivity for NF-68, NF-160 and NF-200 was determined using NR4, BF10 and RT97 antibodies, respectively.
