An appendiceal mucocele is a rare clinical entity often mimicking that of acute appendicitis in a majority of cases leading to incidental intraoperative findings. Nevertheless, appropriate diagnosis is vital prior to surgery to prevent complications such as pseudomyxoma peritonei. This report details a case of a man in his 70s, who was admitted to the emergency department with right iliac fossa pain with imaging showing wall thickening of the caecum and the ascending colon.

Article Synopsis
  • Alzheimer's disease (AD) is influenced by a variety of factors including age, gender, lifestyle, and the presence of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles that lead to neurodegeneration.
  • *The dual-specific tyrosine phosphorylation-regulated kinase 1A (DYRK1A), located on chromosome 21, plays a crucial role in AD by promoting the aggregation of amyloid beta peptides and the phosphorylation of tau protein.
  • *The review highlights the potential of DYRK1A inhibitors as a therapeutic strategy for AD, alongside discussions of their structural optimization and the pathophysiology of the disease.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained arrhythmia and carries an increased risk of stroke and heart failure. Here we investigated how the immune infiltrate of human epicardial adipose tissue (EAT), which directly overlies the myocardium, contributes to AF. Flow cytometry analysis revealed an enrichment of tissue-resident memory T (T) cells in patients with AF.

Article Synopsis
  • Maternal and child health in remote communities is often at risk due to limited healthcare access, leading to reliance on traditional birth attendants (TBAs) and raising questions about integrating traditional and modern practices.
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis of six studies found that training TBAs significantly reduced perinatal and neonatal mortality rates, though results for stillbirth rates were inconclusive.
  • Although there is some evidence supporting TBA training benefits, the studies reviewed had methodological issues, indicating a need for further well-designed research to refine training interventions and improve outcomes.

Herein, we report the modulation of the band structures of halide perovskite CsCuBr by tuning the synthesis methods. The photocatalyst PC-1, synthesized by the hot injection method, has a more negative conduction band minima (CBM) than the photocatalyst PC-2, synthesized at room temperature. As a result, PC-1 can activate molecular O more efficiently to initiate the radical-mediated dehydrogenation of alcohols.
