Cancer is still one of the leading causes of death, with an estimated 19.3 million new cases every year. Our paper presents the tumor-suppressing effect of and on B16F10 melanoma, the intraperitoneal application of which followed the experimental infection with these tapeworms, resulting in varying degrees of effectiveness in two strains of mice.

In addition, thirteen known secondary metabolites namely sulfuretin, 2,3--fustin, fisetin, butin, butein, taxifolin, eriodictyol, 3',5,5',7-tetrahydroxyflavanone, 3',4',7-trihydroxyflavone, 3--methyl-2,3--fustin, 3--galloyl-2,3--fustin, -resorcylic acid and 3---sitosterol glucoside were isolated as well.

A similar "cave effect" leading to pronounced chemical interactions under such conditions may be assumed, but the chemoecology of troglobionts is mostly unknown. We investigated the defensive chemistry of a largely cave-dwelling julid group, the controversial tribe "Typhloiulini", and we included some cave-dwelling and some endogean representatives.

All the samples showed profound anti-DPPH radical activity, due to high content of total phenolic compounds (R = 0.92).
