Background: A randomized Phase II study evaluated the activity of weekly paclitaxel versus its combination with trastuzumab for treatment of patients with advanced breast cancer overexpressing HER-2.

Patients And Methods: Among 124 patients randomized, 123 are assessable for toxicity and 118 for response. Patients received weekly paclitaxel single agent (80 mg/m2) or combined with trastuzumab (4 mg/kg loading dose, then weekly 2 mg/kg).

The relationship between varicocele and male infertility remains to be explained. Oxidative damage because of the testicular venous backflow may represent one of the causes of gonad injury and seems to precede the histological alteration. Therefore measuring the values of spermatic or intratesticular nitric oxide (NO) could be useful in evaluating this oxidative distress.

Mantle-cell lymphoma (MCL) is characterized by poor prognosis with a median survival of only 3 to 4 years. To improve clinical outcome, the European MCL Network initiated a randomized trial comparing consolidation with myeloablative radiochemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) to alpha-interferon maintenance (IFN alpha) in first remission. Patients 65 years of age or younger with advanced-stage MCL were assigned to ASCT or IFN alpha after achievement of complete or partial remission by a cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (CHOP)-like induction therapy.

Background: We describe a multistep model of cancer genetic counselling designed to promote awareness, and disease surveillance and preventive measures for hereditary and familial breast and ovarian cancer.

Patients And Methods: Step T0 of the model entails information giving; this is followed by pedigree analysis and risk estimation (T1), risk communication and genetic testing (T2), and genetic test result communication (T3). User consent was required to proceed from one step to the next.
