Purpose: To determine whether the effect of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide in diffuse diabetic macular edema is dose-dependent regarding the velocity and duration of macular edema reduction, visual acuity improvement, and induction of predictable complications.

Methods: This clinical prospective study included 32 consecutive patients (32 eyes) with diffuse diabetic macular edema. All patients had visual acuity, fluorescein angiogram, and optical coherence tomography performed at the initial visit (baseline).

The aim of the study was to identify the factors affecting major blood loss in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA), in order to reduce blood loss and requirements for blood transfusion. This prospective randomized study included 80/184 patients treated by TKA at University Hospital of Traumatology, Zagreb, Croatia, from January 2005 till December 2007. The following parameters were analyzed: patient age, sex, body mass index (BMI), arterial blood pressure, preoperative hemoglobin level and hemoglobin level preceding blood transfusion, length of surgery, blood loss and volume of blood transfused.

Following total hip arthroplasty the durability of a prosthetic implant depends on many factors but is generally limited by two types of damage: wearing of frictional surfaces of the acetabular and femoral component as well as the loosening and migration of the "rosthesis-cement-bone" system. Since it is possible to establish a cause-and-effect relationship between these two damage types, the aim of this research is to investigate the phenomena related to the contact surface and their influence on the prosthesis-bone relationship in general for various sizes and conditions of loading of the hip joint. The experimental study was conducted using a Timken testing device modified in such a way that simulation of relative movements of the joint elements was achieved using a mechanism that produces conditions similar to those in the human hip joint.
