Treatment of tuberculosis (TB) is faced with several challenges including the long treatment duration, drug toxicity and tissue pathology. Host-directed therapy provides promising avenues to find compounds for adjunctively assisting antimycobacterials in the TB treatment regimen, by promoting pathogen eradication or limiting tissue destruction. Eicosanoids are a class of lipid molecules that are potent mediators of inflammation and have been implicated in aspects of the host response against TB.

A falling liquid drop, after impact on a rigid substrate, deforms and spreads, owing to the normal reaction force. Subsequently, if the substrate is nonwetting, the drop retracts and then jumps off. As we show here, not only is the impact itself associated with a distinct peak in the temporal evolution of the normal force, but also the jump-off, which was hitherto unknown.

Several pool-based active learning (AL) algorithms were employed to model potential-energy surfaces (PESs) with a minimum number of electronic structure calculations. Theoretical and empirical results suggest that superior strategies can be obtained by sampling molecular structures corresponding to large uncertainties in their predictions while at the same time not deviating much from the true distribution of the data. To model PESs in an AL framework, we propose to use a regression version of stochastic query by forest, a hybrid method that samples points corresponding to large uncertainties while avoiding collecting too many points from sparse regions of space.

Numerous phytochemical compounds have recently been reported to stimulate osteogenesis. In this study, the bioavailability and osteogenic effects of chrysin, a natural flavonoid, were investigated. Chrysin was incorporated at different concentrations into biocomposite scaffolds containing carboxymethyl cellulose, chitosan, and nano-hydroxyapatite, through the freeze-drying method.
